First Impressions (10 things)
#81
Oneself - Change of plans - one of our grand daughters just came from South point to stay with us.
Her mom kicked her out,so we have our hands full.
Grand daughter just gave birth to a baby boy and so we have a lot of co parenting to do,to show grand daughter what it means to be a parent.
The baby daddy is long gone.
All is good though,we always welcome our wayward in and show them the way when they become lost or confused.

Mimosa---- congrats on the grandchild!! They always seem to give a spark of energy in our elder years to make us feel younger than we really are, and a joy to teach family legacy while spoiling them rotten! Also wish your daughter the strength to move forward in a positive way in this new world of hers, it's not that scary.
Oneself-- Kapoho and Punalu'u are pretty good. Kapoho is pretty calm, different than most reefs, Punalu'u has lots of Honu, kind of cold water on the top, as fresh water springs change the water temp. If you are on the Kona side, one of my fav's is Puako Bay, just South of Hapuna Beach, a cool white sand beach, but charges a fee. Take Puako rd off the highway and head down about 2 miles or so to the church, one of the many accesses is cady corner from it ( others are scattered along the road about 5 power poles apart). I like to use this entry because there is a metal roof house that can be seen from the water side for reference back in. Swim out slightly to the left and get to the edge, where all the action is and explore! It's a pretty big reef, and I have yet to see all of it. As always, watch the water a while to see what it is up to, and always watch for rip currents. If nobody in the water, it's a pretty good sign for you to stay out as well. Maybe pick up a boogie board to tow behind you for a rest platform if you wish. Have fun!

Are you a human being, or a human doing?

More Observations

- You will have bug bites, all the time. I usually wake up with one a day.

- Everyone owns a Tacoma

- DO not ever say anything bad about someone. Learn to say it in a nicer way if you have to say it.

- People avoid confrontation

- Bring food to your neighbors and coworkers

- Time literally moves slower here, I can get so much more in a day.

- There is no gambling on the island, no casinos, no lottery no scratch offs

- It was amazingly quiet at night during the 4th of july, no obnoxious neighbors with fireworks all night

I, too, noticed the quiet this 4th...(but do not let that fool you, New Years Eve is the BIG fireworks night!) even the local Bon dance was not noticeable...perhaps the rains, that came just as dusk was ending, quieted all down....

Oneself, really enjoying the first impressions. I Will be having my own very soonSmile I have a few questions if you dont mind? If I recall correctly in a thread from some time ago some one was saying to you you wouldn't find work easily. I could be mistaken might not have been you but I think it was. So to the questions #1.. Did you come to puna without a job lined up? I see from another post you are working. #2.. Did you find it hard to get work? #3.. What type of work do you do? No hard feelings if you choose not to answer. I plan on setting the record for quickest to get a job in Puna straight off the boat. Just wondering what the record might be.

My wife and myself reached out to companies VIA their websites and LinkedIn, and asked for advice from people who owned companies etc in our fields of choice on the island, so by the time we came we had interviews lined up already. We both nailed our first interviews and ended up with 2 of the oldest companies on the island. I have been running commerce for auto groups for 15 years and my wife has been in marketing and investments. Luckily for us, companies on this island are trying to evolve their business into the future and needed our services.

If you are a tradesmen, it is much more difficult, as that is what most of the locals are as well.

Oneself, thanks for sharing that.it is helpful. Congrats to you and your wife sounds like you got that handled quite well. I do work the trades but have 20 plus years of restaurant work under my belt as well so hope to pick something up quickly in one or both of those fields. mahalo for your response
