Not really the association, it’s the governance elected by the association.

Donald Smith, County DOT Engineer, gave an update presentation at the 21 March board meeting of the work on Hwy 130 "Improvements". He said given the allotted space at hand makes it difficult. That any decision he makes will affect the community one way or another.
From 6-8 AM there will be 2 lanes north bound. They'll add an extra lane where 29th is barricaded. Southbound no Left turn onto 29th at any time. Northbound an extra lane will be added starting at Kaloli Dr to Shower Dr and then will merge back in further down. Won't be able to turn Left onto Shower south bound, and won't be able to turn Left north bound onto Pohaku. He said between Shower and Kaloli there are 2 transmission lines and he would need more space to get shoulders on the hwy which means they would have to do eminent domain, and there's no funds right now, maybe in 3-5 yrs.
He will keep the GM in the loop of any changes so the office staff can answer your questions should you make inquiries.

There's an opening in the office for the administrative assistant position. The current board president's spouse has resigned. This is good news for the association to not have that conflict of interest affecting HPP biz negatively anymore.
Don't know if this was the result of attorney opinion, OR if she was sacrificed so the majority board could qualify C Crelly to run for Dist 6 in the elections. He also didn't fill out his candidate submission form w/vital info by the drop dead date and time...which was reason #2 for his disqualification..
Dist 5 vacancy was filled at the last board meeting by one of the two Dist 4 candidates, Malia Ahuna-Alofuti, running in the upcoming election. She was called by the board president's spouse before the last board meeting asking if she'd be interested in getting a head start on the board. Dist9 D Roe asked the board if the other candidates were called and offered the same opportunity and P Murdoch, (rep filling vacancy for Dist6 seat) said no. D Roe said he had a problem with that. After a short debate, they voted her in. Some thought it unethical that unopposed Dist 5 candidate wasn't asked if they were interested first in "getting a head start on the board". All candidates could have been offered that opportunity, not just the one...

Mermaid,
I am confused, why would they offer someone who is running in a district opposed to come on the board early instead of offering the district 5 candidate who is unopposed to fill the district 5 seat. The way that it was done looks like they are trying to manipulate the district 4 vote. By offering the district 5 unopposed candidate the seat early there is no perception of manipulation.
Do you know if any other members filled out applications to fill the district 5 opening.
Am I the only one who is beginning to see that the corruption allegations seem to be true.

Good question. Board Appointed Dist6 rep P Murdoch said no other candidates were asked...
Yes I agree, it does raise some questions. The majority board should be avoiding any perceptions of election manipulations at all costs.

Wanted to clarify my earlier post...the former candidate's conflict of interest issue existed when the candidate submission form deadline date came and went...and the bylaws still stands that the board would be in a conflict of interest if they overturn the Nominating Committee's decision to disqualify this former candidate. In other words, just because the conflict of interest was taken out of the equation doesn't change anything. It happened after the deadline. The bylaws state "The deadline for receipt of nominations shall be the end of the third week of March."

“I was just down to the HPPOA office, listening to their spiel about how they're a corporation and they're under no obligation to the owners here in HPP whatsoever. And that is probably why I dislike this situation. You see, they bill me every year telling me I'm legally obligated to pay this money, and they keep increasing the amount every year and threaten me with liens and other court actions. Yet they feel no responsibility whatsoever to account for how the money was spent or to provide adequate road service. We really need to boycott and bring a class action lawsuit against this corporation.”

HPP is a Non-Profit 501©4 Organization with a Tax-Exempt status. It's Members are entitled and should be afforded Financials on a regular basis and other requested information. It's in the By-Laws, Corporate Resolutions, etc. Even Non- Members can request a Non-Profits Annual Form 990 for that matter. The word “nonprofit” generally is used to describe an organization that works to serve a public purpose, rather than to provide financial benefit to any particular individual, corporation, or entity, as is the case in HPP, members, by laws - privately maintained roadways PAID for by its Members. The more BOD and Staff put off their members, the more it gives the appearance they have something to hide and are deliberately being obstructive, and for what, they should want to provide transparency and be helpful to their fellow members, Why would they want to be part of something so petty, after all they are members too! What happened to the Golden Rule?
