Oh, and you don't HAVE to drive them, there are 2 RT buses every weekday from Seaview into Hilo (many more from Pahoa)... Link to the bus schedules:
http://heleonbus.org/

You can make a 1/2 day or day trip on the bus! Even better, the buses to Keaukaha leave the PKP mall every hour from 7:45 - 10:45, then from 1:38 until 4:38 - it takes 18 mins to get to Richardsons from the mall, then you can go from Richardsons to the downtown bus terminal, by way of the scenic Banyan drive in 17 min, every hour from 7:03 - 11:03 then from 1:38 til 4:38. The bus terminal is right across from the Hilo Market, so on a market day you can have a grand tour of Hilo!

So take the 9:05 from Seaview, make it to the mall around 10:30 - take the 10:45 to one of the "string of Pearls" parks.... then return from the park to the downtown bus terminal (possibly stopping on Banyan to walk over to Coconut island & back for an hour or 2) shop downtown, return to Seaview on the 5:05 Pahoa bus & get back to Seaview at 7:10
ETA:the Saturday bus leaves town at 4:00 gets to Seaview at 5:45

All of these rides, no $$$$! one of the best deals around!

The Keaukaha bus runs Mon-Sat
Seaview only has the one RT on Sat - in at 9:05 as above, and back out at 4:00 as added above...

ETA: check the HeleOn link above for all of the routes & times (the Hilo Pahoa (Seaview) route has a separate route sheet for Saturday)

Don't make your guests take the bus. Check the times carefully. It goes into all the various subdivisions and takes forever to get back from Hilo. Just drive into Hilo. Gives you the freedom to change your plans on a whim, or in the event of a sudden Hilo rain event...

If you have any heavy/scratches/cuts or scrapes stay out of the warm ponds Also, never ever leave your keys by your towel unattended. If you really want best beaches for what you describe thats gonna be the Waikoloa area on the other side of the island.

If you don't already have it, get the blue book aka Big Island Revealed, and keep it in your car. I've owned various editions for years and after two years here still find useful things in it, including how to get to the cliffside pools in Wa'a Wa'a. If the rental is in the gated part of Kapoho they will have easy access to champagne ponds which is one of the easiest and most beautiful swimming spots around.

Thank you,Rob!
So the roads to Champagne Ponds are private?
I read on line that there's a very rough road at the back, but my vehicle is not suitable .

Yeah, and that other road in is rough. We do it about once a month in a 4WD Tacoma but even that is slow going, but it is worth it to take the dogs swimming. They won't go in where there are waves.
