RAIN

The rain has been gone for a some time,lots of people complain that there lawn and plants are burring up.My lawn guy told me that customers are telling him not to come over until the lawn gets better.I think people should turn on their sprinklers. I don't think that I am the only person in puna who feels this way. I say water your lawn and help out the small yard services,plus make your yard look nice.[][][]

Leroy, we are rationing water. Dishes only every other day. Shower together to save water. The grass and those outside the household are just gonna have to pray to Pele, the Mother Ship and whom/whatever can end he drought!

Has anyone noticed the coquis have been quieter with less rain?

YES, I've noticed about the coquis. Where are they? Did they die? I heard one very loud one last night so I closed my window, but the usual hundred-voice coqui chorus has been gone for weeks. My grass is dying but it will come back when the weather normalizes, but my trees are beginning to droop and that makes me very unhappy. I used to turn on my spriklers in a drought, but my new renters (my family, thank goodness!) are paying for the water truck so I don't want to water my yard. I'm sure the big trees will be okay but I'm watching and watering the young ones.

Cat, it seems at dusk they are the same, but I wake up in the middle of the night and hear nothing but crickets and surf.

As has been mentioned before, when the temperatures dip down close to 60 degrees the coqui quiet down. Since they also don't like acid, I'm also wondering whether the heavy vog of late might be a factor.

They're just biding their time. If you have any bromeliads, take a look inside at night. Coquis galore.
