punafish, that's awful. What kind of mindless destruction of property? Did the go after any of the rental homes, or the nice homes along the ocean? Or was it general going after Beaches? I ask because I consider both HPP and Beaches/Shores oceanfront a strip of affluence (even though not everyone is), and I wonder if there's anger directed at those pockets.

Does anyone else find it odd that it is 3+ months later that this robbery in HIlo is being sent to the detectives at HPD to investigate....
I am not sure why there is this delay.... ANYONE????

I did some volunteer work recently related to neighborhood watch and made some contacts. One of the police officers we met contacted my wife (I was in Honolulu) to let her know that a neighbor in our area also got hit. (We're close to Da Store, far from Shore's Gold Coast.) But I just got back from the airport so don't have any details yet. Heard that in one of the homes the sofa was slashed with a knife and the place ransacked. It looks like they also stole some stuff.
As fate would have it, I was standing at my gate at 4:15 (just a little while ago) talking story with my neighbor. While we were chatting, a car occupied by 4 young males--let's assume for now all kind, upstanding citizens--drove slowly down our street, all the way to the dead-end, turned around and slowly came back. Couldn't help but glance at their license number and memorize it. Also got a basic description of the passengers, just in case my assumption of innocence is misplaced. I will consult with our friend from neighborhood watch on what to do with this information. Meanwhile, let's all keep an eye on our neighbors' homes.

There was a robbery in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates. Note what they were after.
It will be in the Wednesday Hawaii Tribune Herald. Here is the text of the article: Big Island police are investigating an armed robbery that happened Tuesday morning in Ka‘u. Officers responded to a 10:18 a.m. call that initially came in as a home invasion robbery in progress in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision. A 52-year-old man, a 47-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man said that three men had confronted them outside their home, threatened them with a knife and demanded marijuana. The victims were able to run away; the three men entered the house, removed a camera bag and fled. The suspects were all described as being about 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-7, 180 to 200 pounds. Two were described as local males and one was described as Caucasian. One of the local males was described as clean shaven and wearing black jeans, a black T-shirt and a black hooded sweatshirt. Police ask that anyone with information about this case call the Police Department's non-emergency line at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 329-8181 in Kona or 961-8300 in Hilo. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.

there is no way this is the full story.
I find it hard to believe that 3 guys went to some random house in HOVE and "demanded marijuana". There is more to this story, and I am certain it has to do with some relationship that exists between some of these parties involved.

That's the right mentality, just blame the victims. Not everyone grows pot here, but enough do that the odds are they could randomly hit someone up and demand it and get what they want.
But that does not matter. The fact of the matter is the VICTIMS were confronted with a knife. Unless something else is revealed, I am giving the victims my sympathy. Nobody deserves this.

I am a coordinator for a neighborhood watch. If you see any thing that looks out of place REPORT IT. COMMUNITY POLICING OFFICER
NON EMERGENCY # 935-3311. They will make a record of it for future reference. There are not enough officers to be everywhere but REPORT IT. We have had mostly Vacation Rentals vandelized, the agency or owner post when it is vacant so the thief know when to slide in. Let your Neighborhood Watch folks know your secheduled activity.
