Aloha!
We have built our planter boxes. They are basically a large bottomless frame of wood. We are getting ready to get them filled with dirt. Should we be putting anything in the bottom for either drainage or something to prevent the dirt from seeping thru them??

I would recommend a few inches of rock or cinder in the bottom to maintain drainage over time..... good luck!

Rocks will help drainage but weed will still come up. weed cloth has plenty of drainage, no sense putting hard work into something and then getting cheap at the end.[

Weed block as I have used it in my yard comes in two types, tries to let nothing through, but seems to disintegrate really fast if it gets any sun, and the kind built to put on the surface, which holds up better, but can let weeds through. I'd think the more solid kind would work best in your case. As long as it is marked to have drainage. I also now use peanuts in the bottom of my half barrels, for a little more air, but with a solid bottom, I am not worried about weeds.
