Punaweb:Changes in latitudes,Changes in attitudes!
#71
Carol, I wish everybody would look at this topic/web site the same way. We wouldn't be having all the bickering to contend with. I'm sure I'll get flamed when I say I miss the early days on this site. I know there were a few people causing Rob some grief but it sure was more pleasant to come here to make a comment with out having someone taking an exception to it.

Anyone who is just checking it out would have to assume it is just about being the Anti-Punaweb. I personally think there is a place for a Puna based website which is more freewheeling than this one, but the constant sniping about Rob and Punawebbers really turned me off. Rob is choosing to run his site his way, including not upgrading for all the newest bells and whistles, but he is offering a free service that we all are taking advantage of and many of us truly value.

I hope that some of those who want to micromanage how Rob runs his site will wander over there where there are fewer constraints of topics or style. As with ice cream, that's why there is chocolate AND vanilla, you can have just one, both, or neither.

While I was writing my response Devany's post disappeared, so this now makes no sense to anyone, sorry.

I bumped this topic to address the issue that the unfortunate changes were already discussed and can not be undone just by encouraging everyone to post positive ,get active in the community.
In 2005 the economic situation was less grim, a lot of happy and hopeful
newcomers...

What I didn't realize bumping this topic - that it still had the posts of that person who most of people here would not like to hear from .

Please,accept my apology.
For those who know the history,it's obvious.
For those who don't - my apology is sincere.

I think the person who suggested and encouraged "positive posts and community building" has LOADS more credibility than you are AWARE of. Of course this is my opinionated opinion.

Mella,I never said otherwise.
When a topic has been already discussed, very often on PW someone bumps the older version.
After I saw your post with the quote I read back and realized that it was not a good idea. And apologized.
In this case bringing the similar topic was a bad idea.
But it was not meant to undermine the other person's opinion.

And,BTW,assuming the worst is not contributing to make this forum a better place.

Stillhope:
FYI this thread was from late December 2008, not 2005 and the recession had already kicked in here in a very real way, as is obvious reading the discussions from that time, so no, this thread is not from some rosier, better time when we all had more money.

The entire set of interactions since the resurrection of this thread just reinforced my personal opinion that it rarely is a good thing when people dredge up old threads from the archives, unless in the Building or Gardening categories which stick to facts more than opinions.

To everyone else:
The solution to most of this is pretty simple: talk to people here like you would if you were in person (with civility and respect), don't continually keep "shouting" the same things over and over in a thread just because people don't agree with you, and continually editing posts to SUBSTANTIALLY change what was said (not spelling/grammar errors) is often not appreciated by the other people participating in the thread, or even just trying to read it.

I'm with Pam, (who I still haven't met, someday I may not have to work 70 hours a week and can actually have a social life) we need to do some positive face to face community building here. I think many people would be more civil if they actually knew the people they interact with here. And while Punaweb is more civil than many sports or politics forums, being better than a sewer isn't saying much. I think we as a community can and mostly want to, do far, far, better than that.

Good point, I don't sense a lot of dagger throwing amongst those that attend the face to face gatherings.
