And what fares are common? Any standby?

Pretty much, just Hawaiian Air at about $160 round trip including taxes and fees. That won't be for a last minute purchase though. Many of the flights are around $67 before the added taxes and fees, times 2 for a round trip.

Go/Mesa shows some flights for $146.40 RT including taxes.

They do standby on Hawaiian. The flights I've been on were full, so it's not a given to get on.

Officially, Hawaiian no longer has free standby, and they can charge a $30 change fee plus fare differential to go on an earlier flight. Unofficially, however, some of the agents in the interisland terminal in Honolulu will still do it for free. (I have a tendency to book on "commuter" laden flights around 5PM, so my originals could be overbooked.) On my last four attempts, I have been batting .500 on free standby to earlier flights. I don't know what it is like on this end, though.

There used to be (I think) Island Air who flew small prop planes. Are they still doing it?

I forgot to mention that Hawaiian has a new fare class, coach plus. For about $12 you get free standby same day, no change fee, a free checked bag, and 50% more miles credited. At least if did offer a free bag in February, but they may have decided they were being too "generous" as I don't see that listed as a feature now.

Island Air is still around. They're the only airline servicing Lana'i now. Not sure if they fly out of Hilo. They have a website though.

Here is a big potential saving on the interisland portion of some American Airlines flights to the mainland. AA will often throw in a flight on Hawaiian from Hilo to Honolulu as part of a ticket to DFW or Chicago for little or no extra charge. On my last two ticket purchases to visit my mother in Texas, I was able to get ITO-HNL-DFW once for the same price as HNL-DFW and once for $20 more. They seem to have limited seats for their use blocked on Hawaiian interisland flights, so this requires purchasing way in advance, but it is a good deal. I don't know if this could be done for further connections beyond DFW, but it would be easy to find out on aa.com.
