Stand up jet ski's ?

Anybody ride them, see them? Hilo bay looks like a great spot to ride.

Stand up or sit down, they are called Personal Water Craft (PWC). Their use is highly regulated and only in very limited permitted areas. There is now a requirement to pass certification courses. The Hilo bay permitted area is out by the breakwater. As you can see from the links, enforcement is by DLNR and they have been known to confiscate vehicles in violation.

Jet skis in Hilo Bay caused some stress a few years back. The result being that jet skis are restricted to an area out near the break water. The arrival of California style gas burning toys was not particularly well received in a bay that had been quietly paddle power for the last 1,200 years.

I wish they would confiscate all idiot's jetskis here because the operators are rarely experienced enough to use them in a responsible manner and then people get hurt or worse rather quickly.

Funny in the cruising world the same complaint drones late into the campfire lit evenings - sailboat vs powerboat or stinkpots as we not so lovingly refer to them..........

Wow, they are heavily regulated & thats understandable. I'm sure the thrill craft areas can be very fun depending on Conditions but Ehhh, who needs a Superjet when you can surf.

I did browse the DOBOR. What I didn't see was fishing rig regulations. How does that work? I saw them on the island.

As far as blowboats vs powerboats...each have there merits, it's whom controls the helm

both have their uses and consideration (and understanding of the rules of the road)from the helm everything agreed. Kinda like zippering on the way to pahoa
