Papaya Vandalism in Kapoho
#21
Chainsaws leave a mess when they cut. There would have been bits of shredded papaya trunks all over.

"Paul, The disease is ring SPOT, a virus, not a parasitic ringworm"
Carey, thanks for setting me straight.

I was also under the impression that all BI papaya was GMO, not so:
"Q: What is the percentage of acreage of Rainbow papaya production in Hawaii?
A: Approximately 61% of the State’s total bearing acreage is represented by Rainbow [GMO] papaya.
Kapoho Solo [non-GMO] being harvested from 20% - as of August 2005."

drove by the field today. acres and acres of ruined crop, a family devastated by finiancial loss and mentally . done with machete. the destruction was overwhelming when you see it first hand and talk to the farmer as we did. he kept saying "why?" "I hurt no one". that someone came trespassing onto their land, stole not only their income but their peace of mind because someone doesnt like GMO or papaya field spraying.. eco-terroism is now considered the motive, and they are the worst sort of slime hiding behind idealogy to justify trespass, destruction, and grand theft.

Since I'm guessing that summary execution of these a--holes would upset all the " they're just poor misunderstood, good folks who've never done anything wrong" folks on the forum. I would propose that when caught, the judge sentence them to perform 100,000 dollars worth of labor on his farm at minimum wage. Not on the weekend, but continuously from date of sentence until paid off. If they have a family to support, they can do it at the minimum wage rate. And if they belong to some idiot fringe group who condone eco-terrorism, seize that organizations assets to help pay the cost. Personally I still prefer the Chinese bullet behind the ear method, then charge the family for the cost of the bullet. Darwin at work, improving the species.

Dick! You made me laugh out loud with the idiot quote!

On the other hand, I do advocate for ATv's slogan of "its okay to get angry but never okay to get violent".

I like your idea of 10,000 hours of community service on this poor man's farm. Nothing like seeing the real person helps understanding grow. Or maybe even the opportunity to help him find/plant non-GMO but yet ring spot virus resistant plants.

I swear I looked for this field both going to and coming from Kapoho yesterday and didn't see it...only saw thousands of healthy, happy papayas...

From the Trib:

"It's my future for my farm," Julian said as he looked over the hilly property about two miles north of Highway 132 on Alohalani."
Assume the best and ask questions.

What an awful thing this is. There just aren't words for this kind of hateful act.
