I second, and it doesn't necessarily have to be serious. Humor or lighthearted is good.

Admit it Carol, it's a fun thread. Always was. Seems your effort could be better spent condemning some of the let's just say "negative Aloha" threads we've all seen from time to time? No worries however, I won't push this any further. Remember fun & Aloha are good things. And you have the right to click or not click on any thread you so choose.

How many chickens are too many? My neighbor just got nearly 30 of the little puff balls to go along with 8 goats and a pig!! Where does it stop? How much can you legally put on an acre? They don't need my permission for sure...but what about the smell on a hot windless day? Not very sensitive to the rest of us!

You would be very surprised to find out how many little puff balls can fit on an acre of AG. The limit is probably how many they can afford to feed.
There is often some attrition with baby chicks. I started out with 24 for example and ended up with 12 hens.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Just be glad they aren't running a dog boarding facility, a green waste composting operation, or raising game birds, geese or peacocks. All are fully permissible on AG land, even just an acre.
Sounds like your neighbor is trying to raise food for their family during these tough economic times, we have several people on our street doing basically the same thing on one acre lots. It hasn't been a problem so far, good small scale sustainable farming practices don't tend to create a lot of smell and the noise isn't any worse than what is created by the gardeners who show up weekly and spend the day using a bunch of loud equipment to maintain the few perfect suburban 1 acre yards on our street.

Thanks Carol, after considering what could be I guess I'm lucky. Funny thing is it's not a food issue...They just like pets! Nothing wrong with that!
