Reasons why we stay together
#11
Mike & I met in highschool, and have been together 35 years so far. So, obviously there's a lot of shared history there. I would hate to start all over again. Fortunately he feels the same way!

We are not clones of each other, and in fact, have differing opinions on plenty of topics. How boring if we were exactly the same.

Respect each other, agree to disagree sometimes, and stick together anyway. Share. Play nicely. Listen. Allow yourself to love and be loved.

Tony and I are best friends. I would never want to do or say something that hurts him. He is the same with me. He allows me to be who I am. I'm grateful.

We both had prior relationships that were not good. We did not want that drama in our lives again. So we agree to disagree and when we don't it doesn't take long to laugh again. So yah, laughter is so important for us!

He gets me, and I him.[Smile]

Giving the other person, room to grow and be true to themself. When you want to physically hurt the other person, it is time to move on.

30 years. Knowing when to keep your mouth shut. Knowing when to let what your spouse says go when he/she forgets rule #1. Living with his/her bad habits means they will live with yours. Please and thank you, offering the last piece of cake when you really really want it, calling when you're late, counting to ten, letting go, realizing you're probably just as much a pain as they are and you can't change them anyway. The sooner you realize that, the better off you'll both be.

31 years. Finding and giving strength to each other when working through the sometimes-stressful process of building long distance in Hawaii. Expressing hope and encouragement. Emphasizing the positives and possibilites in difficult situations, having been through many of life's ups and downs together. Exploring life anew with our granddaugher. Feeling loved.

LOL... Your ex was wise indeed, Carol.

After many wrong relationships, getting it right finally has taught me this: it should be easy. As in not difficult! Not a bunch of ups and downs, analyzing and back and forth. Just two people who truly love and respect each other and WANT to be with each other. The rest just flows.

Bob & I will celebrate the 25th anniversary of our first date this October. Just this morning I wondered if I did kill him could I dig a hole big enough to bury him without the dogs digging him up - just kidding! SmileSmile In many ways we are just alike but yet, very different. We laugh together every day. I smile when I think about him. We have been together since I was 18 & he was 20. We gave each other plenty of space in the early years which was good and we still give space. We enjoy hanging out together. We know how to argue without hurting each other (EVERYBODY argues every once in a while). We are partners. I think that is very important, to be partners in life, working together and for the benefit of each other. However, had I answered this question at about 8:45 this morning I would have been asking how deep the hole has to be. But I think what makes a relationship good is that 15 minutes later everything was OK. We talked it out and that is what you have to do. Respect the differences.
