Even with local project management help we are having trouble nailing down what the cost is to take out additional plumbing fixtures permits prior to final inspection. Does anyone have experience with this? We do have the building permit amendments in place that have approved the change from the original plans. The only step remaining is getting the plumbing finaled. Because we added a sink and a drain for the hot water tank, we need additional plumbing permits for these changes. What is the cost and why does it seem to be such a 'big deal' to sort out? Are the costs significant? Mahalo for any advice. We are willing to pay the costs for the additional permits to the County ourselves, but apparently it must come from the plumber who took out the original permits. We are not getting direct answers from this particular trade while all other aspects of the job have run very smoothly, considering the complexity of the project. We are building long-distance and can't just go down to the County offices ourselves and seek answers.

You can call the county building department and ask. 961-8331. In my experience, they have always tried to be helpful. The costs for just adding a fixture on a plumbing permit are not significant though I don't know the exact figure. I am guessing it is less than $100. Don't be worried about this.
To be clear, was the new sink on the building permit "amendments"? If it was not, you made need to submit new revised plans for an entirely new permit for the house which includes the new sink.
Thank you for the response about the approximate cost being less than $100; agreed it does not seem significiant. The plumber did not break out the cost for the permit portion of added fixtures on his invoice and instead has it within a 'cost per additional fixture' summary total. Yes, the new sink was part of the building permit "amendments" and the revised plans had to be resubmitted for review by the county. It took about 5 weeks but eventually the amendments to the building plans were approved with no issues.

Aki - just did one - added a utility sink and washer/dryer hookup - both where on the original plumbing permit but not on the plans - had the plan redrawn and walked it thru the various agencies in a week - then back to building department - a few weeks and they called - my permit was ready - permit cost $11.50.

If you already have a revised building permit, then you only need to submit for the new plumbing permit to the plumbing inspector in the building division. It should only take a few days for him to sign that.

There was originally 3 building permits (1 for each structure), the revision incorporated all the changes made.
The plumbing inspector needs to make a decision if one additional permit is needed incorporating all the additional plumbing fixtures or if each new fixture needs to go under the oroiginal permit #.
This is a bldg permit decision.
