Faye Hanohano no show at the Hawaiian Shores forum
#1
Yesterday, Saturday, there was a forum for state offices at Hawaiian Shores community Center.

Our State House Representative, Faye Hanohano, failed to show up as is her habit.

I'd like to hear commentary from anyone attending the event.

Assume the best and ask questions.

Aloha Rob, et al,

Faye's office had confirmed she would be attending. I received phone calls from people not living in our area who wanted to attend and needed directions. One person emailed me and asked me explicitly if she would be attending. When I answered his email, she was. At 243P Saturday, an hour and 15 minutes before the forum was to commence, my cell rang and it was Faye. She called to tell me she was still in Kona, attending a conference, and if she left then she'd not be able to make the forum. I thanked her for calling and assured her I would let the folks know. I did. Some who came late wanted to know where she was so I wound up answering the question often.

After the Forum, which was attended by a little over 30 people, half from our area, half from outside our area, I was told that Faye made it to the UH Hilo Candidates forum earlier in the week, but that the number of people from Puna who were there were easily counted. One can interpret that anyway they wish; those present yesterday had an interesting spin.

I hope she is not avoiding these local forums because of the allegations regarding sign theft that have been made. It would be better for her to get out ahead of that one way or another. Anyway, that is the 'rest of the story' as I was privy to as to why she did not make it. The 24th is the next big State Rep forum. I cannot imagine she will be absent.

So who knows what the conference in Kona was? Is this true?
If so, I could give her a pass.

Could be. The only event in Kona I could locate on Google for last Saturday was:

Mai Tai Festival at Royal Kona Resort (Aug. 14)

MEDIA RELEASE The Royal Kona Resort hosts the second annual Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival beginning 2 p.m. Aug. 14. This event celebrates Don the Beachcomber and his legacy as the true inventor of the Mai Tai.

But maybe there was something official taking place off radar.
Assume the best and ask questions.

There was a health care conference in Kona. Dan DiDomizio, of Puna Community Medical Center went to it also and told me who was there - the list included Faye Hanohano. The substance of the conference was to brainstorm what could be done to improve health care delivery systems on the big island.

Well, she may not be able or willing to make it to any community forums where voters could ask actual questions, but she sure was all smiles and waves at the zipper today. I sure hope that isn't enough to get her elected again!

If Faye knew there was a healthcare conference, why did she agree to appear at the forum in the first place? It sounds too convenient to me, and there is a pattern of not wanting to face the voters' questions. IMHO, she is counting on her union and ethnic/family connections to get re-elected, and it might work. It did last time. Let's hope things are different this election.

Faye Hanohano has confirmed that she will attend the State House candidate forum at the Pahoa community center on Tuesday, 8/24. Marlene Hapai and Anthony Marzi have also confirmed their attendance.
Please plan to be there at 5 pm and bring brown bag or take out. You will have a chance to ask your questions.

Is the Malama o Puna forum on the 24th restricted to environmental issues? I have heard this in the past, but I am not sure and would like to know. If this restriction is actually imposed, it will skew the discussion and not allow a "no holds barred" question session.
