Property tax offices closed until Tuesday
#1
Property taxes are due Monday August 23rd. The tax office is closed today for Statehood Day and Monday for "Furlough Friday".... So if you haven't paid your property taxes, you must mail or pay online....

Wow! Pretty smart thinking on their part. I just found out Furlough Friday was Monday instead, in trying to deal with Plan Dept.

Actually, you can pay your tax in person until the 24th, Tuesday. Today is "Statehood Day" a holiday for County employees.

thanks for the information. we were all set on going down to the property tax office on monday.

"the receipt date is the date shown by the post office cancellation mark stamped on your envelope. your payment must be postmarked on or before the due date."

for those paying online, know that there are fees for this service.

I just paid mine yesterday. Whew. Don't they have a drop box accessible from the outside of the building.

with my luck i should have gone today but went yesterday. Also turned in my licence plates at DMV. Was 7th or 8th in line but din't take more than 10 minutes to write out nice check- still cheaper than Mufiville.
Found the nasty surprise on my property.[Sad!]

Other people want to make friends- I just want to make money.

John,
Silly me, Thursday I just thought, "Hey, it is almost 4:30, I'm at the Aupuni building, may as well pay the taxes"....but the window was already closed, so I called the phone # on the bill... the lady who answered did not mention the Tuesday option, only that you must either post or pay online....as they were also closed on Monday.... for "Furlough Friday". Not sure the county really thought that Furlough Friday out well

Is it just me, or is it really weird that they would not want to ENCOURAGE people to pay and stay open on the due date...

Carey,
They get penalties (and possibly interest) from late payments, so there is little incentive for them to be flexible or sensible when it comes to this particular furlough schedule.

I certainly don't want to defend them, but they had a notice running in both of the newspapers indicating the Tuesday deadline.

We have yet to receive our tax bill (mailed to Canada). When I called over a week ago to inquire further about the amount owing and to say that I still had not received a bill, I was told they had trouble with their foreign mail and would be resending the bill. She didn't elaborate about what the trouble was (not enough postage?). So, I took her name down and included a note with my check as it's not a certainty that mail can be delivered in one week's time.
