Aloha

Aloha,

My family and I (Wife + 5 kids) have just arrived in Puna. We're from Dallas, TX. We're staying in the Fern Acres subdivision. Yesterday was our first day in town. I've been up since 5am.. (I hope becoming acclimated to this time difference becomes easier!)

About us:

I'm a software developer / entrepreneur and have the luxury of residing anywhere. My wife is a photographer.

We have 4 girls and 1 boy. Their ages range between 9 and 8 weeks.

The area is incredibly beautiful and we hope to meet lots of other families during our time here! If you see us around town, feel free to say aloha. We will be easy to spot. We will be the incredibly lost family of 7 taking pictures of everything. [Smile]

PS: I'm also interested in meeting any other IT folks here.

Welcome to Punaweb and the Big Island, lfoster!

How is the internet access up there in Fern Acres?
I'm also an IT guy. I'm expecting quite a few more to move here in the coming years.
If you can live anywhere, then why not here?

Aloha lfoster - and welcome to Punaweb!
Carey beat me to it: come join in on the Scuba Sunday fun & meet lots of good folk. Your kiddos would enjoy it too, btw. ;-)
And yes, you will eventually get used to the time difference. Meanwhile, enjoy the dawn chorus of birds and the sunrises!

aloha, Liz

Aloha to you and your wonderful family! Enjoy the Scuba Sunday if you go...plenty of "subject matter" on this island for a photographer! [Wink]

Welcome to the Big Island and to Punaweb! Both take a bit of adjusting to, but both are wonderful places once you settle in Smile

Aloha and welcome. By all means make Scuba Sunday, kids will have a blast, always lots of water toys, paddle boards, boogie boards, kayaks, snorkeling in the bay, and did everyone not mention the food. Great outing lots of chance to meet, greet, and ask questions. We are normally located right by the showers and restroom at Richardsons. Look for an EZ-up and usually our banner. Easiest way to find Richardsons in to Google map it, or just take Kaneolehua down till it hits the light at the waterfront and ends, turn right follow the waterfront past the port and go on down until you hit Richardsons on the left. Seems like its about 3 miles, but I could have the distance wrong. Again Welcome[Big Grin]

Thank you everyone for such a warm welcome. We are enjoying ourselves so far. We will definitely check out scuba Sunday. Regarding internet access.... well I have my iphone tethered to my macbook and I get AT&T 3G (about 2 bars) while working on my lanai.

It's about slow DSL speed. I spoke with the cellular accessories store that's next to KTA in Hilo and they're going to loan me an adapter to bring out to my house to see if it works out here before I buy one (how cool is that?). If anyone is interested, I'll be happy to share the results of that experiment. lol

That is very nice of them but make sure the agreement is clear. I tried something similar with Verizon (or more accurately Diamond Wireless, their agents at Kuhio Mall) and they tried to charge me even though I couldn't get a signal.
Please let us know the results, thanks.
