Tiny Black Ants
#1
Does anyone know how to get rid of tiny black ants in the home? You leave food for just a few minutes, and its covered with the critters. You spray the trail, and the next day, the trail is back. You bomb the house, and they re emerge in about a week. Help!

Never leave any food out or crumbs ever ever.

Chinese chalk is very effective with ants, but it's toxic (and illegal). Terro bait is not bad. I never spray for ants.
I can leave food all around my kitchen, but I have had one house where I couldn't. My ants mostly stay outside.

OK, this is from the Konaweb FAQs
"How can I control ants in Hawaii?
A.Use this time tested recipe:
1 teaspoon boric acid
6 tablespoons sugar
2 cups hot water (this water must be really hot)
Mix ingredients and pour over cotton balls. Put mixture in cottage cheese containers with lids and poke holes about 1/8" from the bottom. Don't worry if you have more ants the first couple of days. After third day, ant problem should be gone. BE SURE NOT TO PUT THIS WHERE CHILDREN AND PETS CAN GET INTO IT.

Also, remember that in Hawaii you must seal up any "opened" or partially eaten food items in plastic bags or put them in the refrigerator immediately or bugs you didn't even know were around will appear from nowhere - fast. Don't put food on the floor or the ground, either, or you're asking for sudden ant infestations (pizza boxes, bags of cookies, etc). Keep areas around pet food bowls clean, and even think of setting pet food bowls in little saucers of water to keep ants out. (Works great!)"

I am so lucky that I don't have any of those problems. I have some ants cruising my kitchen windowsill, but they don't bother the rest of the kitchen. I leave all sorts of food out, have the pet dishes unprotected on the floor, no problems. However, I know what a problem it can be.

I had the same ants when i lived at hilo terrace, and at first i left them alone because the roach problem there is so bad i figured ants cant hurt. Well, i quit leaving food out and they started biting me, and one day, after i left a dirty plate out and forgetting about it for a few hours, ic ame out and it was black with ants, and the counter was covered with them as well. Needless to say the infestation was quite bad.

I dug around online, and found out that boric acid mixed with sugar works pretty well. I mixed one part boric acid to 2 parts sugar with just enough water to form a watery paste. Put it in a coke can cut into a bowl maybe 3/4" deep, and put it into the ant trail. The ants swarmed over it for hours and hours. The next day i saw maybe 5 ants total, and from the following on i never saw another one. Ive used this same technique with a more mild ant infestation in my place up in mountain view and it worked again. Give it a shot.

I was visiting in Kapoho and I left a half coconut out in the yard. In about an hour it was covered with (insert huge number here) black ants. Amazing.

I also have been plagued w/ the tiny ants, they were driving me crazy. Finally I found the cure. Ant traps from Walmart. It takes a while, but after 4-5 days, they are GONE. They take the poison from the trap back to the nest & it kills it. YAY!!!
