Importing non-native species - Turtle smugglers
#61
Have read the entire thread. Those who think it's OK to bring in invasive species, then moan about enforcement efforts just get my goat. Our climate here is ideal for the explosive growth of invasive s with no natural predators. Any efforts that can be taken to keep them out should be employed. My whole thrust here is if someone thinks that law enforcement effort to prevent this are extortion at gun point, then perhaps they should consider what happens if enforcement is left to those opposed to bringing in invasive species. Talk about enforcement at gun point, if you demand that I take personal action rather than let law enforcement handle the job, that's what you would get. So I'm puzzled by the "how absurd".

If an new species should be allowed here it's Australian Bearded Dragons! Those buggers are so cute and eat bugs like nobodies business. They make great pets and are so tame you can pick em right of off posts where they like to sun. Plus, (if you've ever seen them do their little dance), they've got moxie! Did I mention they are all curious and very intelligent, (well, at least the females are).

Needless to say as rational people know this – humans are the most destructive (to nature) species of all those known on this planet. Our destructive habits don’t end at destroying entire forests and tainting the atmosphere with many poisonous substances. Our destructive nature also revolves around our daily activities including taking animals from one location (probably against the animals desires) and taking them to another location.

The efforts we make as a society in a given action to attempt redemption for these destructions is an act in self scrutiny. A society void of self scrutiny is a society with no conscience/constitution; likewise, a person who lives without self scrutiny is a person who lacks conscience/constitution.

because government is totally rational and individuals are irrational?

at what point does the wisdom of the government surpass that of the individual? what you say is only to spread FUD.

if individuals are not ultimately responsible, why is such an effort made to by those in positions of alleged "power" to prevent the individuals within their enterprise from having any criminal liability while operating as authority?

good luck DickWilson i am sure your a "nice" cog in the machine, some of us can just see through the con game being played out.

I think they had helicopters using infrared technology, not spectrometry to inspect the lines for invasive turtles!

I think when they get "lines" out here in Waa Waa 2 miles from the nearest utilities (fat chance in hell) they might find those special turtles using that special method, then they can send them all to Scottsdale AZ.
In the meanwhile... simply checking for invasive species being brought into the State will do fine.

Edit to add - oh boy! I just made Kamaaina! Now it's time to throttle way back on posts. I certainly don't want to be a "punatic" (funny thing there, the spell check has red lined "punatic" and is recommending "lunatic").

Mauka,
You've expressed - "You flatlanders are just plain crazy. Too much oxygen or something."

Sounds a wee A-hole to me but as a fellow a-hole, I truly agree and would lean more on the "... or something." side.

Aaaaaaaaaaaa hahahahhahahahahhaaaaaaaaa.

Pfff, thought only the fat, ugly, stupid, never gonna get anywhere in life because their parents beat them, uncles molested them, brothers sold them for ice biotches at Maui Waena Intermediate school who beat up my beautiful little girl because she was 'looking' at them said "go back where you came from". My bad.

Dick has a point. Remove law enforcement and you have an instant vigilante society, and the guy with the biggest gun gets to be King of Hawaii. Not my idea of paradise...

Edited to add: congrats to Kamaaina Kane! Smile
