Somethings that I would add to the water Q is, if you plan to use a water bottle, try to get the dog used to it well in advance. They do learn eventually, it may just take awhile. About using ice in the dish, try not to do that with a dog that is deep chested as that is one of the warnings that are given to prevent bloat is no cold foods or ice water. Bloat/torsion are very serious health threats and can be deadly.
When I have shipped animals they always checked to make sure there was water and food. Check with your particular airlines to be sure.

Deborah,
To get you pets from the Ag office to interisland, get a cart (or two) before you leave the main terminal. I don't think there are carts near the Ag office.
Put the crates on the carts to transport to interisland.

I've heard that there is now a place where you are allowed to take your pup out of the crate. Not sure of where, but you might want to ask. When we came, we took our dog to the post office property and took him out for a rest there before our flight to Hilo.

Oh, and regarding water, we put the bowl on the crate doors, but empty. They were just there in case something happened and someone needed to put water in them. Both dog and cat seemed to do fine without water in the crate for the SFO to HNL journey.

Best of luck.

Once you pick up your pet from the Ag office in the airport, where do you take it to put it back on the interisland flight? Can you do that at the ticket office or do you have to go to the H. Airlines freight pickup?

We went right to the ticket counter, the same as on the mainland end. They tell you where to go next. I think it was oversized baggage or something like that. There they checked the kennel (dog comes out again) and then take the pup away.

On the Hilo end the kennel came through one of the doors next to the baggage carousel.

Deborah,

When we did this, the routine was different, so, I would suggest that you try to speak to the Hawaiian airlines folks who are at the Honolulu airport directly.
