I think it got down to 64 last night! even with the coquis I can hear the ocean and I'm a mile away. It was really roaring and booming here last night must of had some good surf out there. I'd hate to be living next to the water. I'd be paranoid that the waves would be taking away my home.

I'd never let my house get down to 64-65 on the mainland. I thought for optimum sleeping temps 68 was perfect. Ah well, would cost a fortune to plug in a heater here and try to heat an uninsulated home with single pane windows. Best bet would be an electric blanket!

Once your blood has been thoroughly thinned (this coming from someone who grew up in the windy city), "cold" is low 60s, occasionally even 50s. Goes without saying, it gets colder and colder as you move up the mountain.

Like Tom, I was thinking that our corner of paradise is likely one of the only places on earth where, in addition to FEELING cold, you can actually HEAR it. Indeed the sound of coldness is silence, a happy side effect of shivering male tree frogs too wimpy to climb a tree and belt out their love song. That means, at least for a spell, they're not making more coqui babies. But all it takes is a warm evening rain to rekindle those passions, and the cacophony returns.

I'm used to the coqui noise so it doesn't affect my sleep one way or the other. But can't think of a better time than this for a few "silent nights." Best wishes to everyone for a safe, joyous holiday season.

Same here, dwedeking. I grew up and lived in the UK for nearly thirty years. A night-time temperature of 64 degrees would have the TV weather forecasters warning everyone about a balmy summer night and that you might have trouble sleeping because it was so warm! Tonight I have a blanket nearby and have even put on a pair of socks!

I just spent a couple nights at Pohakuloa. We had icicles in the morning! Talk about cold!
