Elevation 350' Catchment Tank or Well?
#1
If one has a piece of property at about an elevation of 350', is it better to hire someone to drill a well or have a catchment tank installed?

Thanks!

You may want to check the archives. There was much story about it in earlier posts. enjoy.

At that elevation, I'm told both are possible. It's up to you and your budget. Personally, I'm at 200', and plan to add a well in the not too distant future.

Here's someone you might be interested to call for prices and other information.

It is going to be expensive but Daniel at Diamond drilling can provide an estimate. We are about the same elevation. If you have neighbors maybe you can share the cost.

Daniel told me not long ago to figure about approximately $180/LF for a well.

OUCH! A few years back I had a 180 foot well drilled in Illinois for $5000 and that included the running of 50 feet of line underground to mate up with our old line. I can't imagine why the cost would be so much more here. Both places are going through rock. ?

At an elevation of 350', its over $60,000 for a well?

That's about 4 nice catchment tanks.

Back a few months ago, the Diamonds quoted me considerably less at $70 a foot.

For my place it was $13,300=Drilling 190 ft., then add pump set for an additional $3,000-$3,200 (pump set = pump, control box, 85 gal. pressure tank, sediment filter, water meter, pressure switch, & odds and ends). An optional, larger 2 hp pump set was available for between $3,800-$4,200.

Curious. Why you would want a water meter?

From what I gathered, homeowners with wells are requested to report their monthly water usage.
