In many cases the victims know their invaders and deal with it directly rather than through legal channels. This may just perpetuate the problem with a never ending cycle of actions and revenge though.

When going to look at the HPP statistics site it showed
warnings of downloads from that site including trojans.
Here is where it states what all is amiss.

We have had thousands of hits on the HPPNW website, and no one has reported getting ads or other bothersome material as a result. Our web maintenance volunteer ran some tests and thinks the McAfee issue may be related to the sign-in function on certain ucoz-based websites. We don't require registration or sign-in to view the stats. I visit the site regularly, have paid for McAfee protection, and have never had a problem or even a warning. If anyone has actually experienced a problem, please let us know.
The ucoz group runs lots of websites, though, and I can't tell you what happens on their others. We have just never had a problem with ours.

So maybe the statement
"In a place where home invasions are fairly common"
should be qualified with
"In a place where home invasions among drug dealers, growers and users are, according to some school children, fairly common"
I don't mind people getting a bad impression of Hawaii/Puna/HPP, but I don't like them getting the wrong impression.

Don't put words in my mouth. I said absolutely nothing on this thread about "drug dealers, growers and users" someone else speculated that. I work with teenagers everyday and have a well honed BS detector. These kids were talking about real experiences in a real way, several of which were verified by parents in later conversations. The one commonality they all had was probably poverty, not illegal activities.
You demanded I explain the basis of my statement about home invasions and I told you, based on that and reading the local paper every day, I stand by what I said. I am sorry you don't like it, but I am not going to change my understanding of this community to fit your perceptions. There are many Puna's depending on your income, neighborhood, social circles. My job brings me in contact with a pretty wide swath of East Hawaii's population and it gives me a certain view of our Island which is different from that of the average mainland transplant, I am not going to pretend differently because you have a different view.

Bystander, there have been some older posts in past years about these thefs happening and probably archived. Some talked about it during the construction stage of materials and supplies dissappearing rapidly unless they were nailed down or watched. There were some solutions mentioned about using video cameras, etc and ones that will be able to record with night watch vision also. There have been a couple videos on youtube that were posted showing a guy in his truck ramming a gate.

Carol, when someone suggested these home invasions may be drug-related you didn't say a word, so I thought it matched what you had heard.
I like to base my opinions on evidence, such as police reports. Now you're saying the home invasions weren't reported to police but you have read about them in the paper?
It could be true, there could be a large number of home invasions that are not reported to the authorities, but without verifiable evidence how can anyone know for sure?
If anyone is going to go on a thread about HPP and write "home invasions are fairly common" then they should be prepared to back it up with facts.
