Always tickles me that the little copters make much more noise than the big ones going overhead . reminds me of "the little engine that could"
That old power to weight ratio rearing its ugly head again look out below.... In the meantime it is markedly quiet up here in the acres these last few weeks. The route has definitely changed

mdd, you obviously have mannnnnnny misconceptions about yurts and seem intent on not learning about what you're talking about. Flap, flap, flap indeed. I wonder where your intense dislike is stemming from, because it isn't from your actual experience.
Where in this post did I ever say 'when I am in a yurt the noise of the helicopter bothers me'? I didn't. The fact of the matter and topic of the thread is that helicopters fly over our otherwise peaceful subdivision all day, every day, low, loud and invasively. No one should have to lock themselves up in a fully insulated, sound proof fortress in order to escape this intense nuisance. I tire of your bend toward making this about yurts, about your assumptions on the way I live and your obnoxious way of continuously turning the subject back to your own misconceptions. I seem to be your favorite chew toy of the week. Enough.

mdd, my position is that our government agencies don't do what they should to shield residential areas from the noise of tour helicopters. This industry has been allowed to create a nuisance, and it is past time for residents to take on this cause.
That is why I reject your idea. There are other islands in the sea that depend upon tourism, which have had the strength to say NO to tour aircraft noise, and to keep the flights in paths that cause the least disturbance. Puna residents never organized, have laid down and taken it, and as long as they do, nothing will be done to improve the situation.

Point was ... A house C A N be tight as a drum ( UNventilated of sorts when totally closed up ) but still N O T have any problems nor need any kine mechanized help. Need it ? open it. That was it. I had to assume you understood there was not a need to mention or imply ventlitation was some mystery thing such as how you brought it forth. so das it.
I know you understand this ventilation thing but please know others do as well and have lived all over in many differernt circumstances ... Be it a van in the winter or a boat in the tropics. Side note on original topic ... Never understood why people would move into a uncontrollable situation knowing it might bother them ... Then complain about it.

exactly, were the helicopters flying over before you bought your property? like people on the mainland who build near a airport then complain the noise.

I'm going to go out on a limb and propose that at least 70% of the subdivisions of this island (might be interesting to include other places too... Ocean view (H.O.V.E.), Honokaa, Captain Cook/ Hawaiian Acres, Kalapana, Kapoho, ...)experience excessive helicopter noise. Let's ask! Let's talk!
Getty, the helicopters have MULTIPLIED over the years. We didn't build near an airport. Close to the volcano. yeah? Loving it, Yeah. What was once a slight buzz now and then is now a DIRECT overflight, often below 500'. Have you ever had this happen? Daily?? Intense. Loud. Sudden. Close. Shielding your eyes to see what color this time? Covering your ears sometimes. Wondering - What? The? Hell?!!! And GRRRR..... Helicopters fly over our place sometimes so low that I can see the people inside, can see if they're wearing sunglasses. Most days though, it's just the standard 20 - 30 helicopters sawing their paths overhead and to the sides of us that we hear. Sometimes I'm just not around to keep track. What laws or penalties do they answer to? Any? It's a show and we're the scenery. Where's that s.o.s. flag I had kickin' around...

As much as I think daily helicopters are uncool - and the dea being known to hover over my house a couple of times a year ---argh!
The same sense of personal freedom that led me to stay and linger on island over the years and build a house and life here .... also allows the 'copters to do their thing It is a trade off imho..... |
