Kona has the pristine air quality, unhindered vistas of the mountains, and of course; Costco.

Honolulu is noted for it's relaxed rural atmosphere and slow pace.

These airplanes flying to and from Hilo are likely to remain empty.

unless we add customs & immigration to ITO and make a play to handle to Asian traffic on their way to the to the mainland

HNL running out of gates - OGG is picking up some of the mainland flights as we type.

A little pro activity by the local politicos now would reap jobs later

The best thing ITO has going for it is all that capacity.......

Unless continental can match Alaska Airlines airfares (which were $299.00 last summer)....I will stay with Alaska Air and continue to fly out of Kona. Price is everything to me

I'll be flying out of Hilo - time (to do what i want) is everything to me

The rates will be competative is my hope......

I've priced some itineraries to Texas and Georgia for next summer, and the prices on Continental's website are indeed competitive. Their rates to DFW and ATL are both below American and Delta's non-stops out of HNL even without factoring in the interisland fare. Connections in Los Angeles and other points are well-timed with optimal layovers. I did not check for west coast only trips, though.

Now that visitors have a choice, if they choose to go to Kona then I won't be picking them up!
Support your local airport.

You got that right! Funny how I don't think twice about picking folks up in Kona, but if guests had asked me to pick them up in Delaware when I lived in DC, I would have told them they were out of their minds...

K.R.,
I bet the weather's most likely better in HI than D.C. this time of year. [Big Grin]
