Looking For Concert Venues
#1
Aloha, I'm planning a series of classical guitar concerts around the Big Island and am looking for recommendations re. locations. I like playing concerts in churches, especially if they have good acoustics. I'm interested in other types of venues as well.

Just booked a show at Kalani Spiritual Center for Jan 24th.

Mahalo for your suggestions.

Contact David at the Volcano Art Center. The new building would be perfect for a classical guitar concert. Do you have a website?

VAC Web:

For large bookings:
Best acoustics is the Kamehameha School arts center in Keaau - for good acoustics also may want to checkout Hilo High & the Palace

Smaller, but with a good mail list: East Hawaii Arts Center, Lyman Museum, (both Hilo)
also decent acoustics: KMC Volcano, Akebona Pahoa - also I do not know the status of Ulua Theater in Volcano, but that was a nice intimate venue

UHH has some smaller rooms (the Arts Center is pricey & does not have great acoustics, unfortunately...) & the plazas.

Most churches do have concert potential, but it is usually best to contact each of the offices for the howtos on booking

The Ulua theater has been gone for a while. Jason is a neighbor of mine in Volcano. When he got married, he needed a larger house for his new family and he turned the theater into his new home. It could also get a bit chilly for a classical guitarists hands.
I think many of the venues you mentioned in the previous post would be too large. The theater at KMC is, however, well known for it's superb acoustics. Have you thought at all about doing house concerts?

Mahalo for the excellent recommendations. I'll follow up on them. I've never done house concerts, but would be interested in them.

Any thoughts about venues on the rest of the island? Following a first round of solo concerts, I'm thinking about starting a series with concerts every three months or so, featuring myself and guest artists.

Mahalo again.
