Goodbye Blockbuster Video
#1
Just wanted to say goodbye to Blockbuster video. They may still be around for awhile. But now that RedBox video is popping up everywhere on this island with current new releases for $1.00 a day including Pahoa and Keaau...there is no need to drive into Hilo and pay $3.99 for the same rental (not to mention the gas)! I just discovered it today. I'm not sure how long they've been in place...but when I can get a current new release the same day it's been released....I'm sold!

You just can't beat saving time and money!

Don't rejoice too loudly. There are Blockbuster employees out of work now. My wife was a rising manager at a video chain, then it failed. Six months, no work now.

Yea...on older movies. Not new releases. And if your looking for older movies...the Hilo Library has a huge selection for the same price as Blockbusters deal and you can keep them a week...instead of 3 days

Is it the Netflix and RedBox that killed Blockbuster? We used to rent from Netflix, that is, until we were able to get Oceanic Cable. My friend owns Alpha Video in Puainako Town Center. They are not doing so well either. They just moved into a much smaller location.

Pretty much Netflix and Redbox has put an end to Blockbuster video nationwide. You can't operate a building like blockbuster and pay employees salaries without charging at least $4.00 per rental to cover overhead. And in Keaau...Redbox is in Foodland

I haven't been in a video store for at least 5 years, thanks to Netflix. Yup, they put BB out of business, but I say, fine. I like ordering online and getting them so quickly. I always have 3 movies (or DVDs of TV shows) around I know I want to see. But I gotta say, since we went DVR, we do watch less and less movies at all.

Speaking of Netflix, does anyone have trouble sometimes trying to play the movie cd? Maybe it's my machine, but some play fine, and others the picture gets all broken up and then stops playing.

Thanks, jon

No trouble for me on the netflix dvds - BUT we did have one recently that, when you went to special features, says they're only available on purchased DVDs. If I wanted to buy your stupid movie, I would have. I hear this is the way it's going - i.e., netflix is only able to offer "rental" versions w/o extras - which really really sucks. Good gosh, they have ads for their other movies on there; it's not like they don't make anything on the netflix versions.
