There is a county site which I will find a link for you (I will look for it this afternoon unless someone else here can link it now) - that you can report the "ice house" and the landlord must do something about it or risk losing the property. You may also want to call the Ice Task force with the Hilo PD and talk to one of those officers. There is probably a good chance that the house is already on their radar.

Either that or it's the police under reporting the incidents. Somehow I doubt that there were only 6 reported burglaries in HPP last month as shown on the website.

Someone just broke into our house and took 2 laptops, jewelry boxes with inexpensive stuff except for hubby's wedding ring. A neighbor saw an old red jeep sped off as she was walking down the road. Male driver with blonde female passenger. According to the cop that came he just came from another location where a burglary was interrupted because the owner was home.
Be extra vigilant everyone!

Funny you should post this. A few days ago I saw a red jeep (no top) go up our dead-end and had a funny feeling about it. I made sure the guy saw me looking at him, but he definitely was looking around and going sorta slow. If he comes by again, I will try to get his license plate #. So sorry to hear about the break in. What kind of jerk does this kind of thing?

I'm in Kapoho Vacationland and we had 2 situations just last night. One resident living near the tide pools had their car battery cut out. Another situation a cam corder was stolen. The police did come out and dusted for prints. Neighborhood watch is increasing their patrol and going later to keep an eye on the neighborhood.
There has also been an increase of stray dogs. See Hi. County Ordinance on stray, loose and barking dogs. One tourist was bit but since the skin was not broken no report. Our Comunity Police Officer tells us to report everything.

One or two meth freaks can be quite active - they come and go - and seem to like the same targets as they seem to return to the same areas as indicated by these posts from time to time
Id recommended a good alarm.

When thieves take items, they often try to hock them. Make a list of your stolen property, ideally with model and serial numbers, and drop off copies at the pawn shops in Pahoa, Keaau and Hilo. If you haven't been burglarized yet, make that list while you still have the items and can write down the serial numbers. This will also help if you have theft insurance. Even if you don't, and the goods aren't located and returned to you, you can use this info to deduct the value from your income taxes.
I know that the above doesn't help at all with the feelings of violation that you are experiencing - been there, done that. But I know of cases where the thieves were actually caught because the pawn shops got them on camera. Good luck to you.
