Carol, you sure are right with that one, I have been recommending Isaac (the owner) to my clients for years.

Surprised no one has mentioned Yamada Furniture.

I bought a beautiful teak dining room set from them about 5 years ago. It was deeply on sale and I got interest free financing. Months later I got a china cabinet in a similar style (teak) from the Bamboo place on Maka'ala already mentioned in a previous post.

Some stuff in Yamada looks a little dated but not the set I bought. They also have bedroom sets and mattresses. I love how both pieces look in my home. The dining room table came with a removable leaf that comes in handy when I have dinner parties.

We bought from Issac as well. He gave us a pretty good deal. He offered to deliver but would not have made our move in date so we
picked it up with ourself.

I bought some of my furniture at J&J Hardware, and while they are gone from that building, there was a little bitty ad in the paper a few weeks back saying that the furniture part of J&J had moved...somewhere downtown...on Keawe maybe? Wish I'd written it down, went back looking and couldn't find the ad. Anybody know where they went? The things I got were good quality (futons and platform bed)and good price, I'd recommend them.

blessed are the cracked for they let in the light
I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I really don't want to drive the 2.5 housrs each way to Kailua for furniture, so I have started the Hilo shopping. today we went to Bamboo and Teak Furniture, Paradise Plants, Slumberland, Furnitureland and Koehens Furniture. Found lots of stuff we liked. Still planning to check out Yamada Furniture.
As I said before, we are all over the yard sales and Craigslist, so will continue there also.
If anyone has more Hilo suggestions, let me know.
Think between Paradise Plants, Koehens and Bamboo and Teak we will be able to get it done.
Thank you all for the great suggestions.

Found J&J Hardware/Futon World online - they apparently now carry only futons, platform beds, and tankless water heaters - located at 190 Keawe #15 - just FYI.

At least make a pass at Smith's. Really. They have more than just old washing machines. They get stuff from hotels when they remodel. We got a great armoire and some end tables and rattan chairs there. Prices were great and they delivered everything. We got a cheapo washer there too that's still going great guns 5 years later.
YMMV

But watch out for Termites and other insects. We got our first bed from them when we were still living in rentals, it was fine. Later purchases, not so fine. Their warehouse is pretty wide open, and they get stuff from all sorts of hotels and businesses, so the quality/pest control is pretty uneven.
