It looks pretty scary from the outside. Heck, it looks scary on the inside. We have found some real surprises there sometimes.

I love Smith's. It's the kind of place you have to check often to see what has come in. I pretty much "did" our guest room (and other areas of my house) with treasures from Smiths.
The best find was the bedside tables. I believe they originally had some other function, but we saw that they could be cut down to be the correct height to be placed next to a futon. Could only find one in the chaos at first, but looked up high and there was another on a pile almost to the ceiling. The tops looked like dirty plywood. I figured I could tile over the wood. But, when I got them home ($15 each) and cleaned them a bit I realized the tops were beautiful stone.....just VERY dirty and dusty. Painted them and they are gorgeous. Found lamps to go on the tables for $5 each and they look great after a couple of coats of spray paint. Another great find was a coffee table which I turned into a luggage bench by padding the top and covering it in fabric and painting the legs. I have done bamboo chairs for my lanai and several floor lamps.
Since most of the furniture is from hotel remodels it is in that 70's and 80's pinkish southwest style color. I use craft paint from Walmart to paint it over in fun colors. And, because the furniture is hotel grade...it is very, very sturdy.
And, the folks that own and run Smith's are very helpful and friendly. They can answer almost any question about a broken appliance.

Smiths is on Pohaku, just off of (east) Hwy 11, right after you pass WalMart & the big yellow Fabric Discount store.
Thy are also a good place to check if you want a couple of extra oven racks for a cookie baking surge....
ETA: I also stumbled past the new location for Floor Decor (that shared the J&J space) on Manono, in the building with Hilo Habitat for Humanity ReStore.
Teak Bali was a favorite of ours (was on Hwy 11, where the Goodwill store is now), just recently I found their web-site:

Whenever I went to smiths... They always seemed like it was run down crap. It just seemed they would have 500 of something out of a hotel and they had seen better days. Tho, I've only been there a few times... Each time I went I didn't see anything I wanted tho, if I did want something I always got the feeling of asking if they would take less for an item. So I kinda wondered did anyone try to haggle on the price any when you guys bought from smiths?

Yes, I do haggle at Smith's and it usualy works...especially when buying multiple items.
Everything there looks like crap....you just have to remember to bring a lot of imagination. If you find an item you like....search for others just like it and pick the one that is the most sturdy and has the least dings. I think of it as a sport.

I have a friend that haggles at walmart (Okeechobee Fl.) successfully when buying larger amounts. He can get pretty aggressive with his haggling and it necessitates at least an assistant manager but he pulls it off. I will haggle in many places but never tried it at a walmart. Definitely at
any furniture store.
