Best shipping company to move with...
#1
I am wondering what is the best way to move there? Does anyone allow packed cars? (seems like a lot of wasted space in the container with the car for the price) Does anyone rent partial containers? We are planning to move very little but send the remaining things usps one price boxes but have a few bigger things we'd like to keep, to. Things that would be more expensive to replace.

Matson is one of the choices, or pretty much the only choice other than pasha. You can ship a car in a container with Matson, but theys till charge you the flat rate of 1000.00

Funny, ain't it? A 20 foot container with only a car can go there for a grand, but a 20 foot container full of stuff costs 7 grand. Someone is making tons of money there.

I've heard that it's cheaper to buy a container and handle your own logistics, with the added bonus that you can take as long as you like to load/unload, and you can recycle the container for storage (or sell it locally for about twice what you paid).

I made 4 plywood/wood frame crates that will fit inside a 20' container. I packed and sealed 3 completely, and #4 is partially packed taking up a stall in our 2 car garage.. Check with Matson about requirements, they advised me to use Allied to send them to the left coast to be loaded on a container to Kona or Hilo via Oahu. Take pictures as you fill up the container and store them in a couple of remote places for insurance purposes. I got side tracked with cancer, am just now getting ready to move to Puna again.

I was limiting us to one 20' container, but now it may be 2 or a 40' because we waited 3 years with the cancer and didn't get rid of enough stuff.

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

There are also the ABF Relocube. These are small, but we used one when we moved. No way a car would fit. We did bring my wife's 200cc scooter, my rollaway tool cabinet and some small stuff. You provide the lock, and only you have the key.

Oh it is more than a grand to put a car in a container. It is 1K+ the cost of the container....
