Thanks for the good referral to this link. I signed up just now.
Wouldn't help if you weren't on the computer, but the phone call would help a lot.
Thanks much.

Thanks Obie, That's a good link and useful to people... and thanks Hawaiideborah, the issue you raise needs to be raised. Kaloli Point is not the only gap in the system. Pete Hoffman's bill is trying to close the gaps.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Good link Obie!

HIDeborah - An option is to follow Obie's link and get the HCCD msgs sent to your cell. We registered a year or two ago, and I got the text msgs almost at the same time as my first friend called about earthquake and then I went and checked here: http://wcatwc.arh.noaa.gov/

By the time sirens went off 2 hrs later, and then police went through with blow horns, and then VHNW went through, we were already fully in gear as far as our tsunami game plan went.

As Kapohocat said "The help and concern for friend or foe all the same." [Smile]

It is Aloha! [Big Grin]

As hawaiideborah said "Nearest siren is very faint. Need a siren that those of us oceanfront can actually hear" [:0]
It is also the case on the oceanfront at the bottom of Macuu. IMHO - the problem is that the sirens are facing AWAY from the ocean and are over 1/2 mile away. [?]
The sirens did not wake up our friends down the street - we had to shout and "pound" on their door - I'm sure we scared them more than the siren would have! [|)]

As Seeb said "I was horse the next morning from talking on the bullhorn." [^]
In our area not only the "bullhorns" but they checked personally that EVERYONE had heard "something" and ensured they evacuated. [Smile]

Obie - thanks for the links - I've signed up for both. [Smile]

For various reasons - we have NO TV - we have POOR radio reception - we have NO landline - we have ONLY our cellphones and the reception is bad even WITH a cell-booster! We DID NOT HEAR the sirens! [Sad!]

But we live in Hawaii surrounded with caring friends and neighbors! [8D]

Our neighbors "R,D&B" were watching TV and told us, asked if "J" knew, then told him - we checked "S&R" next door - they we heading our way to tell us, they had already told the "vacation renters" next to them - a motorcycle pulled into our driveway, it was "W"; he and "J" couldn't get us on our cellphones - "W" and I drove to "D&D" woke them up - I checked on "K&G" and then "M&M" across the street (saw their week old baby) - "D&J" called and TOLD us to come to their place NOW - packed up "BooBoo" & "Komecko" and as we left drove to Kaloli Point to tell "S&S" and "M"! [Big Grin]

I could just see Booboo saying "what the heck????". Did Booboo and Komecko whine as much as Miss Kitty did? [}Smile][:0][:X][B)][:0][:X][V][Sad!][xx(]

She was her own siren! Whined for 7 hrs straight almost about being away from her own house. I took a pic of her when we got back when we let her out and captioned it "Next time leave me at home, I can get to high ground on my own thank you very much. PUH!" I told her to her kitty face - "Nevah gonna happen because your daddy will never leave you behind".

Now that's it is over, there is some funny stuff to laugh at!

Debora, there was a car with yellow lights and a bullhorn that went down all the dead ends on the point. and I checked today and I can see the only house makai of ala kai from where I made the turn onto kupaoa (no place to turn around a bigger truck on ala kai since shipman pluged the end of the road). If you did not hear any of that signing up for CD’s phone and text alerts and getting a NOAA radio (it goes off like a pager) will help.
If people want a siren down there someone will have to donate the land. Civil Defense’s budget is microscopic. The current sirens are on HPPOA land.
