The comparison of cannabis and fruit items is based on toxicity standards like LD50 (lethal dose that kills half lab animals) and the fact that, because cannabinoids impart medical benefits, all consumption (except for those with Legionaires Disease last I read), has medicinally beneficial components, regardless of the consumers intent.
No real surprise that plant (and human) produced plant compounds like the cannabinoids impart medical benefits. Previous generations of Americans (before 1930), knew this well, they just didn't know that the cannabis tinctures and preparations they consumed was "marijuana".
Bottom line though, Rob's observation is spot on.
