Something Rotten In Hilo???
#21
Thanks, Carol. [Smile]
Yeah, I think the corpse flower was a humorous suggestion, but I thought it was quite interesting to read about. What do the pilau trees look like? Do you have any kind of name for them? I'd like to look them up.

The low tide makes sense too.

Whatever the smell was from, it wasn't smelling by 6 pm, because I rolled my windows down to see if I would notice it. I didn't drive on Kamehameha though, just on the actual Bayfront.

A county news release:

County Department of Environmental Management (DEM) crews successfully repaired a leaking wastewater pipe beneath the ground at Hilo International Airport early Saturday morning.

The repair avoided the release of untreated wastewater into the ocean that would have caused the closure of beaches in Keaukaha. (See attached release for more.)
Assume the best and ask questions.

First of all anyone is welcome to give an opinion. I don't care if it was about trees or bees or stinky sewage.

I was on Bayfront driving from Wianuenue to about the Farmers' Market when I smelled something that was like the undercarriage of a person that was not clean. I don't think anything by the airport would affect those few blocks, or a rotting carcass in Kapoho, or low tide but that's me.

I don't know why there has to be insults. It just makes no sense to me. I have backed off PW for sometime...just can't stand the snarky stuff.

Thanks for sharing!

The sewer line in question was near the old airport terminal which is quite close to Banyon Drive and the bay front.

On the day in question the wind was blowing from the south and the smell could very well have been carried that far.

Sorry for the nitwit remark.I didn't mean to call everyone nitwits.

it is possible that it is from the dead whale carcase that has now worked its way to Kapoho

KathyH, you have every right to say whatever you want about whatever subject. I can't see how two friendly posts can be considered hijacking. Now I know what the attack thread is about. Unbelievable.
