ishkabibble,

There is book in the glove box that's called the owners manual.

It has a suggestion that when the low tire pressure indicator comes on,
you should probably put air in the tires.

It has pretty pictures in case you can't read.

actually, techs at a dealership are given extensive and ongonig training on your specific vehicle. They are often flown to the manufacturer for classes. Sometimes the dealer is best and sometimes the independant mechanic is best. The dealer is almost always more expensive. How much they charge for a job is dictated by the manufacturer. Although most dealerships are independently owned, they are franchises and very much under the manufacturer's control.
Anyway, I think this is getting away from being Puna related so I'm out. But good to "meet" you.

Obie, I think that you are the one who can't read. Please read the post again befor you make stupid comments. For your info. I did read the manual and nowhere does it say to put air in the spare tire. No pretty pix that show that. Please know what you are talking about before you make snid comments.

And I hate to bring this up, but did you ask for an estimate when you dropped the car off? Did you expect that they would fix your car for free? If they had told you that the problem was a fault in the pneumatic system and they fixed it for only $29.11 would you feel better?

You paid them to spend time diagnosing the issue and fixing it. It turns out that all it took to fix it was filling the spare tire. So what do you think is a reasonable price point for the work they did between $0 and $29.11? And is it worth getting this spun up over the difference between that amount and $29.11? You had a problem that was causing you concern. You now know that it was nothing serious, that it has been resolved, and that if it happens again, you know the first thing to check out. Isn't peace of mind worth $29.11???

My dad used to tell the story about the plumber who made a service call to a house with clogged pipes. He listened to the pipes, took out his wrench, gave the pipes a good kick, and Bam! the clog cleared. When the homeowner complained about the $100 charge to kick on the pipes, the plumber said "The kick I did for free. The $100 was for knowing where to kick...".

On a Toyota, the TPMS sensor has to be registered with the on board computer so it knows the location of the tire. The spare is not included.

Guess they told you that so you wouldn't feel so silly.

KeaauRich, I ask then to check it out to see what the trouble was and then find out what the cost would be before i decided if I wanted to or could afford the fix. They fix it without telling me what the problem was or the cost. They fix it withoout my approval. If they would have told that the trouble was low air in the spare tire and it would cost $29.11 cents to put air in it I would have said no thank I'll do it myself. I don't think it's a good ideal to drop off a car at a repair shop and say fix it before I know the problen and cost.Thank for the story
