In
West Hawaii Today....
The Land Preservation Fund may be poised to acquire 26 acres adjacent to the boat ramp including a hot pond.
Sounds great.

What do you think they will do about the red house by the boat ramp?
That too is privately owned by our neighbor’s family.
Seems that the house is between the park and the new land.
If you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it cost when it’s free...now here come the taxes.....

I love that red house! I hope the county does not take it!

The whole Pohoiki/Isaac Hale Park complex has come so far, and the vibe there is incomparably better than just a few years ago. I hope the County handles this acquisition with sensitivity, especially in reference to that wonderful house. The National Parks and National Forests have programs in some of their lands where long-standing resident families are "grandfathered" into continued residence with associated rights to traditional land use. Hopefully something like that can be arranged if the house has to be acquired as part of this process.

It is my understanding, from a member of the family that owns the property with the "red house", that it is not, and will not be, for sale.
The County's proposed purchase is on the other side of that property. This opens up a huge can of worms concerning access between the existing park and the new addition - across privately owned land.
