I was told there was a VFD on Red Road past Papaya Farms Rd in Waawaa.
Any one know? This could drop our fire insurance if true. (needs to be less than 6 miles.)

Yes, there is a volunteer fire station down in WaaWaa, but i'm not sure if they respond to fires other than in the WaaWaa community.

WaaWaa is company 10 Bravo. Nice Bunch, but they only have a Brush Truck. ISO usually only counts Class A engines in there time distance thing for there rating

The fire department is looking into the possibility of establishing a volunteer station in the Kalapana area. There is a large hole in the service net from Pahoa to Kalapana to Kapoho. This area has seen a great increase in population in recent years without a corresponding increase in service.
What is needed initially are six core members, and a suitable parcel of land. The county will help out with equipment and training, and Fred Blas is being contacted with the hope of releasing some money from the Geothermal fund. DNLR is being contacted about using some of the new State land at the intersection of 130 and 137 (Kaimu).
