Community giving
#1
Happy to say I have worked out a relationship with the organization run out of the Cooper center in Volcano that provides one community meal a week at no charge. As soon as our greenhouse is producing we will be going to farmers market. Anything left unsold with go to the center and be used for the community meal. They are a 501c3 organization so all donations are tax deductible.

They are accepting fresh greens (preferatly on Tuesdays and Wed so they can plan their meals) non perishables for general stock, etc... Their pantry and freezer space is generous in size and ready to be filled!

If anyone has the desire to donate, you can do it directly or via me. I am more than happy to introduce you to the lady running the program.

Smile Pam

Wonderful idea Pam!

I'd like to add that Hawaii Harvest goes out once a month to harvest your extra fruit which is then delivered to the Hawaii Food Basket on Holomua Street in the industrial area of Hilo. You can do it yourself or contact Hawaii Harvest. If anyone is interested, send me an email and I can provide the contact person.

This group collects food from the Hilo Food Basket on Tuesdays. They not only have the big community feed at the center, but prepared meals are taken out to shut-ins. They have community volunteers as drivers. It's all connected so giving at your location of convenience works well. I just didn't know if the food basket accepts fresh greens and such. Although I am planting a pretty full array of garden items, my bulk will be lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and green beans. Oh, and eggs. Smile
