Aloha Broadband service change to be aware of
#1
If you are considering getting Aloha Broadband or are already signed up, consider this:

Aloha Broadband promised speeds of 2.5 mbps when we signed up a few months ago. They assured us that they would limit the number of customers and that our speed of 2.5 mbps would not lag.

In the past two weeks, they have intentionally lowered their speed to 1.5 mbps. At this speed, low res videos lag, Netflix streaming does not work well and most webpages take considerably longer to load. Their website still promises that as they add new customers, their speed will not slow down.

Check your download speed at speedtest.net. If it is around 1.5 mbps (40% less than what you are paying for), call Aloha Broadband at 808-929-7668 or email them at support@alohabroadband.net and ask to have 40% of your money refunded. You are paying for it and they have decided not to provide it anymore!

When we contacted them, they told us that they lowered the speed to make streaming videos better. If you believe that, I have some nice property near Pu'u O'o to sell you!

Hawaiian Telcom will be closing their 5 stores and laying off 103 employees. While the CEO got a 500% raise this year, now making $6.7 million a year. So, service with Hawaiian Telecom will not be much better either [Sad][Sad]

It appears that Aloha Broadband has done the right thing and restored the download speed to upwards of 2.0 mbps.

I've heard horrible stories about AWS. Constant outages, slow (less than 56k dialup) speeds and so on.

Cuba is a Socialist Republic, it is not Socialist. It has a type of socialism; the bad kind. Try looking up Libertarian Socialism; the good kind.

Do you think a coop is a bad idea then? As in it is a user owned company?
