Hello all! I've enjoyed lurking on your forums so I thought I better join.
I'm a 34 year old mother of two, staying at home with my youngest (4 y.old) and enjoying getting to know Hawaii and its people. We moved here from Oregon last year after my husband was offered a great job opportunity. Hope to get to know you all and maybe even make some friends!

Welcome to Puna! What sort of job did your husband get, if you don't mind me asking?
I'm sure you miss the cold...

Welcome! We moved here just two years ago on Sept. 6th. We moved here from the Seattle/Tacoma area. Got to Oregon a lot my whole life, as we had relatives in Eugene and Portland. I still love the wonderful Oregon coast, and did that area many times via motorcycle over many years.

Thanks for the welcoming! My husband is breeding shellfish. Same thing he used to do for the USDA on the Oregon coast before the program was cut. I really do miss the Oregon weather a lot. Still have not acclimated. I'm Irish and built for cool weather lol. I keep waiting for it to cool down again! Maybe next month?

Welcome to Punaweb!
Breeding shellfish sounds great! Does he work for the UH Hilo or somewhere in Kona? I wasn't aware anyone breeds shellfish in puna but i'm pleased to hear it.

Dayna: that sounds lovely! I'd just love to make a new friend here!
I have a pretty open schedule, I'd love to do lunch soon!
Rainyjim: he's actually breeding right here in HPP. Shoot me an email if you'd like to tour the facility, my husband is always open to that!

OK, I just had to giggle at this: "he's actually breeding right here in HPP".....
I did know of a facility that was off of Maku`u, near Beach...but thought it was no longer operating... could it be that it still is in operation?

If you want cooler go mauka, the higher the elevation the cooler it is. It doesn't get much cooler any time of the year, but your system does adjust, and the sun is a lot less intense in the winter.
