Amazon has been testing "small package delivery drones". Granted, it's mostly hype right now -- but new FAA regulations will be enacted faster than the "private" subdivision roads get pavement.
All of which seemed somewhat tangenital to Puna, until I ran across this piece:
http://m.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-sw...heres-why/
"Many rural roads in developing countries become inaccessible for months during the rainy season..."
Hmm.

Yes technology is great but it doesn't develop in a vacuum. Ironically, in the past week there has been a lot of buzz about a guy who has created a "zombie drone" that seeks out and takes control of other drones. You can read about it and see a video on his website:

And now for Puna: If anyone could figure out a way to remotely take over a bunch of all those pesky helicopters and send them somewhere south of the equator, I am pretty sure my dogs would appreciate that.

I find it interesting that Amazon is actually finding solutions to the lack of pavement.
This has nothing to do with whether my road is paved (or by whom).

Reasonable point. I bought on a paved road. But whether or not you bought on a paved road or an unpaved road you pay taxes to maintain the roads you drive on. Is your road being maintained with the taxes you pay?
Assume the best and ask questions.

my paved roads wear and tear is is paid for by the association _ I assume part of my association dues go to that.
My County of Hawaii taxes in part go to stuff like the county tax website puna webbers seem to enjoy so much....
My road taxes go to keep the traffic lights and general fund up to speed -
freeloaders cross our paved roads - to escape neighboring subdivisions pot hole line dirt road.... and do 60 in a 25 as the norm it seems -political comment
what goes round - comes round - my 2 cents is taxes - pretty low - my return on my tax dollar vs other places Ive lived - Hawaii pretty close to the top of my list ..... way to go Billy et all

Real-world example I've posted elsewhere in these forums:
Nearest "corner store" is about 10 miles (each way), of which 3 miles are "private" and 5 miles are "state highway" ... but County collects fuel tax on all the gas I use to get there. (So does the State, and you can see what they're not doing with the money.)

I like cars.... I have one that is like the princess and the pea when it comes to road bed quality
Hawaiis state (and chuckle federal highways) top notch as far as the bumpy lumpy car is concerned.... pick ups are better daily drivers once one gets in the 'burbs - grin
