Media Release

Big Island police are asking for the public's help in identifying two individuals wanted in a robbery at Kehena Beach Park on September 23.

A 52-year-old P#257;hoa man reported that two males in their late teens or early 20s approached him at about 3 p.m. and grabbed his backpack. During an ensuing struggle, one suspect took the victim's prescription medicine and the second kicked him, causing him to suffer two fractured ribs. Both suspects then fled on foot.

One is described as being 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-7 and muscular with short hair, light brown skin and no facial hair. The other is described as 5-foot-10 to 6-feet tall and thin.

Police ask that anyone with information about this case call the Police Department's non-emergency line at 935-3311.

They took his prescription medicine(His Pot).

The police now describe pot as prescription medicine?
This alert came from HPD, their wording.

So does his (pot) discount the robbery of this man's other belongings and the assault on this man's mind and body?
Both your responses seem very cold.
Medical Marijuana is a LEGAL prescribed medicine. If you don't like
it being legal, get the laws changed.

Hmmmmm, Whats strange tho maybe there is another story out, where does it say (his pot)? Yes if he is carrying a medical marijuana card then yes it would be his prescribed medicine. Why wouldn't it be?

But back to the story. Hope they find these thugs, we don't need these model citizens terrorizing punatics.

I'm surprised the report even mentioned prescription medicine. Surely the main point is that someone was assaulted (quite violently it seems) and had stuff stolen? Why mention the medicine unless there's a good reason to?

I wasn't being cold; I was trying to be curt in my disagreement with Obie, since whatever I say he will disagree and I didn't want an argument.

There is no mention of pot in the release. If Obie knows this through the grapevine, maybe he will share it.

I agree that the focus should be on the violent act, not on the meds. (But I don't think police call pot prescription medicine, as they don't sanction it. They would call it medical marijuana.)

What got me was physical assault in broad daylight at Kehena, I have no interest in going off topic into what was taken.

Tom said it was odd they mentioned the meds. Well, it is a police report, not a media article, and the police tend to lay out the facts. It is a robbery, so they are going to list what was taken, same as they detail what they know about the assault, the injuries, the appearance of the suspects.

I thought Kehena was all peace, love, groovey, but I don't go there, only hear about it.

Interesting! The main point should be the battery and robbery, even if the items taken were illegal. That said, the wording of the release is interesting. The police report would be specific in what exactly was taken unless for HIPAA related reasons that information is now submitted on a separate confidential supplement to the report. I think that could be the case, either that or it was in fact MM and they have decided not to identify it as such. I'm guessing it's the latter. It would be interesting to know what the policy is.

"...Why mention the medicine unless there's a good reason to? ..."

If it was a motive, then that's a good reason to mention it.

Speculation:

Kehena has been described to me as a good place to buy / sell cannabis....... selling meds maybe?

five finger discounts would explain a lot
