Speaking of bugs in our food.....
#1
I don't know much about rice. In fact, I don't know anything about it other than how to cook it[Big Grin][:p]. That being said, what is the little black bugs that I found in the sack after it was almost empty[xx(]. I don't eat a lot of rice so the bag had been open for a couple of months and was in a ziplock bag "most" of the time. Is this a critter that comes with the rice? Or is it something that got into the rice after I opened it?

Royall, I don't know the name of your critters, but especially in Hawaii, we would keep our rice and other grains in ziploc bags in the freezer, which keeps bugs from hatching.... same with flours....

Wherever you go, there you are.

Yes..... They love rice. Have to at least keep it refrigerated.

OK, I can keep it in the coldbox but... is this something comes with the rice? OR crawls/flies in when gotten home?

As soon as I brought it home and opened it...they were in there. I got it at Walmart.

Keep in mid VERY IMPORTANT. Flour products such as pancake mix can be TOXIC if left to moisture. Always keep box in fridge. many people in country got violently ill from various bacteria that formed in the poweder when exposed to air and moisture!

It definitely came with the rice before you took it home.

Back in the day, you will always see it in the rice in Asia.
I never had any bug with rice purchased when on mainland.
All the rice that I've purchased here (HI) got those black bugs the minute I open the sack.

On a related topic, I found that cans of Coke taste diff in Asia.
And sometimes I get batches of Cokes here (HI) that taste so weird that I had to discard the rest. (Now I stick with just Pepsi since I have not had this problem with Pepsi.)
I never experienced any bad batches of Cokes on the mainland though.
Weird! ??

One of my favorite lines, from an old TV movie. Couple is eating cereal. One guy finds a bug in his bowl. The other guy says: "Know the trouble with bugs in your cereal? Once you're done with the bugs, all you have left is cereal!"

Did you get a picture? There are various beetles that eat rice. They can also sometimes chew their way into a bag, though if they can't smell it then they won't.
