Has anyone gone to see the new ocean lava entry?
I would like to see some pics of the hike. I would really like to go but the 8 miles (RT) hike is not doable for me Any shortcut? :p

An expensive but really neat option. http://www.seelava.com/big-island-boat-t...-boat-tour. Went out a few years ago.It was a full moon and we also got to see the sunrise and LAVA !!,

would you recommend this lava boat trip over the helicopter trip?
the helicopter trip gives kama'aina discounts so it is cheaper. No, not for me (I wish). We have visitors coming soon and they want to see the lava flow.

I have never done a helicopter trip.
The boat trip gets up close to the flow and does pass through the steam cloud. They recommend you have gloves to flick the occasional hot cinder off of your body !!I have a shirt with holes burned in it as a souvenir. You wiil get wet and many people(myself included)get seasick on the return. My wife has made many trips and by putting together groups of people she has gone for free. They offered a kama'aina discount when I went and probably still do.

It's entering the ocean just inside the Park, so quite a bit West from where it was last time. Anyone tried the hike from the end of the road in VNP? That would be exhausting. I might have to try that lava boat, any more tips for someone doing it for the first time? |
