Can't wait to try Lucy's...we're going tonight.

As far as Facebook goes...love it or hate it...it's a good tool for personal and business use!

Where is sukothai?
I like Sombat's better then Ning's for the food items we compared that we'd had at both.

FB may seem like a useful business tool to a business, but then it loses traffic due to people who don't like FB format, of whom there are plenty.

I will go to a regular business site repeatedly for information, but once I see they are trying to sub Facebook (FREE!) for a proper website, I never go back. I look at them as a business without a site. As I link lots of businesses (on Tripadvisor) for people, the FB folks lose a lot of exposure here, and that's just from me, imagine all the other traffic they lose.

I think Facebook gains a lot of traffic with the little bit younger than average PW'ers generation.

But use it or dont use it, I am not suggesting you must do either.

I, personally, would not make a decision on a company based on only their social networking styles. As an example, many small businesses start out at the Farmer's markets and dont have a storefront either. The 50's Cafe in Lapaohoehoe has a FB page but no website. If you use FB, you know if they are open and what is the special of the day!

Sukothai is at the last (or first...depending on where you are coming from) business by PVC. The gal and her mother are from Thailand and they do a great job!

I like facebook because it gives me a single place to get "up to date" information on all of the people and businesses that I link to. As far as losing traffic...I don't agree, I don't think facebook is going away...regardless of the format changes. Nothing wrong with "free" information...I don't have time to navigate an entire business website...so I prefer quick access to up to date info. Kinda like Carey telling you they were closed and saved you a trip into Hilo. So...on that note we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I also like sites like YELP; but it doesn't seem like it's gotten the traction it needs to be useful here on the Big Island. Works really well on the mainland and Europe!

Happy Holidays!

Thanks, WJ, I don't eat in Pahoa much, but every so often, and I love Thai food, so I'll look for it.

Of course we can agree to disagree on FB. [Smile]
I don't think it's going away ...

I don't make a decision on whether to personally patronize a restaurant in my area based on their website. I said that I will not link a Facebook site as a reply when someone asks for info on the restaurant, because the info is not clear and upfront. i.e., you have to read Wall posts, and they may be about nothing.

A lot of travelers with money to burn do not care for Facebook. F&F is something else again.

A little off topic, but I was thinking the other day, why don't I find FB useful for one stop shopping? Answer: because my friend base is so diverse, that I don't have remotely similar things to say to my friends. So I plod along with individual emails that are personalized to each friend.

I have lots of friends who are my age who use Facebook, so I don't see it as an age thing. I am friends with lots of people on FB. But I never write anything on my wall, because I have nothing that I want to say to everyone at once. I can see how it is useful for people who have a lot of announcements to make.

I AM grateful to Facebook for bringing me into contact with some friends I had lost track of. I'm glad it's there. But a business should post its hours, contact info, and address and its MENU if it's a restaurant, right at the top. Taqueria didn't do that, instead I saw a bunch of chatter, and I found it irritating.

I worked for years in the restaurant business. In addition, husband and both sons were restaurant chefs, and two of them progressed into restaurant management. Tons goes on behind the scenes, but IMHO it is best to keep it there, and present the most professional and consistent front to the public. <shrug, JMHO>

Went today. Average hawaiian mexican food. Might just be that they have some wrinkles to iron out as it's only the first day and it looks like they have a bunch of "little things" to take care of before a grand opening. I do have to say that the help was very upbeat and energetic, so the atmosphere was good.

I like both Ning's and Sukothai. My humble taste buds are not savvy enough to detect a qualitative difference between these two restaurants. The curries in both places taste good to me. What tips me toward Ning's is their tasty crispy fish, a dish that Sukothai doesn't serve.
