How long is the State of Hawaii?
#1
Been up reading... and was surprised to find this out.
Who wants to share the answer to the topic question?
Also... which County possesses the greatest number of islands and how many does it contain?

The NWHI are legally part of Honolulu County, going out ~1200 miles to Kure.

Yep, with the exception of Midway Island. According to Google Earth in a straight line from around the most easterly tip of the Big Island to Kure Atoll is roughly 1,605 miles. According to Wiki Hawaii state is 1,522 miles long.

I get similar conflictive information between Google Earth and Wiki with regard to the length of Alaska. According Google Earth Attu island to the interior borders of Alaska and Canada are 2000+ miles but wiki says 1420 miles long.

It would be nice to find some definitive info on the topic. Most the info seems to be rather vague.

For info just on the NWHI, the NOAA website for Papahanaumokuakea is most likely the most current & informative (you may need to search through the management plans & such, of course when Mokupapapa Discovery Center reopens next month - NOTE: a new must go in Hilo!- this info will be entertaining rather than dry):
