getting to the airport
#1
I am just curious how people get to the airport.
I will be going to the mainland, and don't want to leave my car at the airport, because it is $10.00 per day for parking.
A taxi is about $70.00 from HPP.
Any ideas? I will be going in February.

Rent a cheap car the day before at the airport and dropoff the next day when you check-in. Or have friends or a neighbor drive you. Maybe offer them $20.00 for the gas.

This topic is quite interesting to me because I also live in HPP and recently had the same problem. We didn't want a cab to pick us up at home and drive us to the airport. It's like advertising that our home will be vacant to neighbors and even the driver. If your close to Hwy 130 ....you can walk to the top of the road and take the bus into town but I don't believe there is a bus that goes to the airport. You'd have to take a taxi from somewhere like Prince Kuhio plaza to the airport.

People in Puna should work up a system of Airport Buddies. Doesn't even have to be close friends or neighbors. Just another family willing to exchange airport shuttle help.

Macuu222 and nani1970 could start it up right now.

I would help my friends if they needed a ride. Seems like many Puna people do that.

There is no HeleOn bus that travels to the Hilo Airport (there was discussion of adding a stop on when the Keakaha route was initially being considered AND there was no parking available at the airport.... but the parking problems are not as acute as they were, and the Keakaha bus goes by, but not into the airport roadway, and that is a mile ...so....

best bet is to see if a neighbor &/or friend can take you - esp. those who have Hilo P.O. Boxes & have to go right by the airport...

we have also left our car at friend in Hilo who then gets us a "short hop" drop off to the airport...

I'm ready Rob.
I've only been here 5 months, so I don't know many people yet.
That is why I have a hard time getting a ride.
We need a PunaWeb party.

Well ask here on Punaweb and offer to return the favor. Kick in some gas money. $70 for a cab is a total drag.

Where are you, how many are you and when do you need the rides to and from?

I see a business opportunity here ... I live 1/2 block away from Airport road and have a huge yard.

You may park in my 1000% safe yard for as long as you want and I will drive + pick you up @ airport for 33.00 total.

aloha,
pog
