Democrats meeting
#1
From Philip Matlage, Hawaii County Democratic Party Dist. 4 chairman:

This is a reminder to all Democrats and wanna-be Dems that Puna makai's District 4 district and precinct elections are scheduled for 7-9 p.m. this Wednesday, March 5, at Pahoa High School cafeteria. Please come and become an officer, get involved it is "Our Party."

Becoming a precinct officer costs nothing and gives you enormous power in the system. Remember that Big Island district/precinct officers have, in the last 3 years selected the replacements for 1 US senator, 2 state senators and 1 House representative. Only WE precinct officers get to name those people from whom the Governor chooses to represent us in that situation, rare that it is.

Make our voice known, it's not a Party until you're there!

Philip Matlage

808-430-0835(cell)

Postscript from Frankie: It's true: the plantation-system political machine is make, die, dead. The late Sen. Inouye was funding practically everything for the state Democratic Party and his treasure chest is no longer there. There is a void in leadership in the state....that's why all the good ole boys & girls are back running for major offices. Puna, let's build a new grass-roots Democratic Party that actually believes in and adheres to our state Democratic platform! And it has to start at the precinct meetings.....please come on Wednesday night!!!

Oops. Well, not to sound too naive, but is there some mailing list a person could get on to know about things like this?

From a quick perusal, I see you are on Joy's team. Good luck in the election, may the best wahine win.

There is an emailing list if you are a member of the Democratic Party. And events are posted on the Big Island Dems Facebook page to which everyone on FB has access. You don't have to be a card-carrying member of the Dems to take part in their events but you do have to be a member (not just vote Dem) to vote on issues that come up at their events.

I really regret that we don't have the funds to send notices via snailmail anymore but we do try to keep an active phone list of those who don't have an online presence so we can notify them of upcoming events, voting deadlines, etc.

If you'd like to be added to either an email or phone list, feel free to contact me at 965-8945. Thanx for asking [8)]
