Murder investigation in Eden Roc
#1
The HPD updated the intial release and have classified this as a murder. [Sad]
Doesn't belong in the Fern Forest topic now that it is official, so giving it its own place, should people wish to discuss it.

I have to say I am shocked by the ligature strangulation. Stabbings and assault with fists, bats, and clubs are more the usual method, or gunshots. Very disturbing, the whole thing.

Media Release (update)

Big Island police have reclassified the investigation of body a found Saturday in the Eden Roc subdivision from a coroner's inquest to a murder.

An autopsy conducted Tuesday morning (January 31) determined that the victim died from a combination of ligature strangulation and a brain injury from a gunshot wound. The victim has been identified as 52-year-old Robert John Leong of Eden Roc.

For those in HPP, the Neighborhood Watch meets at the HPP Activity Center Library at 9 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month.

Herald ran an updated article today, more about the victim's life and how he lived. They seem to have nothing but bafflement on the deed itself. Serious overkill in how it was done. [Sad]

Here's the earlier Herald article, which describes the victim's home and talks about the subdivision:

old news - Me thinks the cops know more then they let on - tough to speculate - and in poor form.

The method though implies "termination with severe prejudice" as my mentor used to put it - there is a major back story we do not know about I'm willing to wager.

So far, no one who knew, or knew of, this individual has speculated it as anything but drug related. No one I have talked to has seemed to be at all concerned for their own safety from the unknown perpetrator. Drugs often come with a side-effect of rage. Just the local gossip mill, mind you. The lot with container home is now available for sale from the owner.

Anyone go to the LEAP presentation? The war on drugs is not working, so now what do we do?

Whether drug related or not, this is not a crime of passion. This person was executed in a fairly familiar style. He was killed to prove a point. What that point is, is speculation.
