Building with AAC?
#1

I am planning on building this summer near the point in HPP. I am interested in using AAC. I would like to hear from people who have done a project in this material. Would also love to hear from anyone and their thoughts about building an ACC home
Thanks

Aerated autoclaved concrete. Around since the 30s a lot of buildings in Europe are built this way.It is a single wall construction method. It must be finished on interior and exterior.I believe it is shipped to Hawaii from Thailand. It can be cut with wood working tools.Has many proponents and detractors.I do stucco and plaster so I'm all for it I can finish inside and out any way you like.I recommend sure wall outside and white diamond finish plaster inside.

Aloha fishenjim, I was wondering, do you work with any particular masonry contractor? Or, do you install masonry (CMU to be exact) yourself as well? Have you had any problems with discoloration of the Sure Wall products you've installed? What about delamination issues AAC with SW? How about acidic conditions in the atmosphere effecting the SW finish? I'm considering a number of construction methods for a small hale in Fern Forest (2,400 ft elevation) near Volcano and just exploring the options available to me ~ ~ ~ MAHALO in advance of your time and consideration ~ ~ ~ Aloha ~

Kaialoha,I'm no mason mostly I do plaster repair, some award winning historic work in the past
I'm patching and painting 150 year old plaster in western Pa right now.Unfortunately I'm not in Puna yet.as for sure wall properly applied I've never seen it fail.Discoloration not really Though I've not seen it withstand 150 plus inches of rain.Sure wall takes paint well.Acidity can be combated with vinegar, only been a problem for me with restoration not new applications. As far as application to aac..clean surface must be wet before applying sure wall then surface of applied sure wall must be finished by wetting and smoothing with Red or Green sponge the red for smoother its a plaster finish tool.I prefer the green sponge it's more of texture finish. The trick is to let it dry enough you can spray it and work the surface without pulling it of the wall I have sure walled concrete chimneys with softball size chunks missing that have stood perfect no cracks etc for a decade with 120 temp variance.I will be glad to answer any questions you have.AAC will accept any finish,I have used structolite, earthen plaster, sure wall, white diamond finish plaster or even good ol dry wall mud.
