Our class felt a rumbling of the roof (as opposed to the floor/foundation)--located a couple doors down from the Subway in Pahoa.

Everyone thought earthquake at first, but it was from above.

Quite a mystery.

Heard here in Ka'ohe Homesteads. Sounded like it came from Leilani area. Was a very weird sound!

HVO archives dated Nov. 4 1994 mentions a similar event. The article "Microearthquakes in Puna" states residents reporting a boom or explosions being heard in Nanawale.

To add some fuel to the explosion...

My mom did not feel the 8:42 AM one but said she did hear something similar Sun morning about 2 AM. She had gotten up as old ladies need to do in the middle of the night.... []... and heard it. To her it sounded that time like an explosion too. This was north of Hilo. (Since no one else heard it - it may have been thunder on Sun - but she said "explosion" -- ... in the "I KNOW WHAT THUNDER SOUNDS LIKE, I AM NOT THAT OLD" voice).

Tuesday morning's explosive sounds were felt and heard here in upper Nanawale Estates, alarming my cat who has never reacted to any of the little EQs that flow thru here normally. At first, I thought it had to be something at the nearby geothermal plant, since I couldn't determine if the house rattling wasn't a reaction to the loud explosive sound or an EQ. Didn't seem like an EQ...
Watching the EQ maps and reading everyones' accounts over the past 2 days makes me think the explosive sounds Tuesday (one larger and a smaller followup about 20 minutes apart) were indications of Kilauea's oceanside subsidence due to the continual buildup against Mauna Loa's voluminous presence. Former HVO chief Bob Decker always impressed upon me what a constant,geologic reality that is. If it had happened at night, we might have seen an electrical flash accompanying the sound, as has happened in the past here.

A Lot of things happen here that defy explanation

It could be that due to atmospheric conditions the chem-trail seeders were flying at an unusually low altitude resulting it a very noticeable sonic boom but unnoticeable trails, due to the warmer lower air. Don't they always fly at supersonic speeds?
